I prefer Geds 70's voice through Moving Pictures. The power, the melodic lines, the range, the passion.

Rush has some incredible lyrics.

I have no heart to lie
I can't pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend
All the world's indeed a stage
And we are merely players
Performers and portrayers
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage

I’ve been a fan forever. My first concert was RUSH with Primus opening at Lakefront Arena back in 1992.

Grew up in a band nerd family. I remember arguments over how to air drum Peart.

My sister pics ON [OFF] played woodwind/perc and had a Tama set I was never to touch. Real world Step Brothers situation.

Fast forward: She has a Doctorate in Music, Marimba the size of a Rav4 and got flown out west to do Steel Drums on a Portnoy RUSH tribute.

I really like Red Barchetta. I like Tom Sawyer and Limelight. That is about it. I know that these guys (Lee in particular) are great musicians, but they ought to be playing jazz. Many of their songs have a sameness to them that can get boring. I think the drummer has too many drums and overdrums.

Claudio was the right choice to cover vocals. I've seen the bands involved with this cover 11 times combined.

ETA: After an additional ten or twelve viewings, this might be the best Rush cover ever. I need them to do another ten songs to be sure.

Permanent Waves is my favorite RUSH album

The Spirit of Radio
Freewill
Jacob's Ladder
Entre Nous
Different Strings
Natural Science

The song that has grown most in my esteem over the years is "Vital Signs" off Moving Pictures, the reggae guitar and Neil's drumming are just amazing. They had to have been jamming to Police records nonstop from 78-82, but then, who wasn't?

I hope this isn't a dig at The Police, I love them too. Both trios are comparable at their technical proficiency, but Rush had a very distinct singular vision - they were a prog rock band that made big songs about big ideas through the lens of Neil Peart songwriting.

The Police were a prog rock band that used to be a punk bad that wanted to be a reggae band that made mostly (excellent) pop music. Stewart Copeland's inability to accept his own inadequacies as a songwriter and let Sting control the music meant Police records would always be fractured and ultimately break-up was inevitable.

Because so many bands have done songs about the invention of the atomic bomb (Manhattan Project), the Holocaust (Red Sector A), and sci-fi futures where cars are banned (Red Barchetta).

I don't really consider either to be true prog rock. The Police were a reggae influenced new wave band that gradually slid into fairly straight forward 80s rock. Rush was a prog rock band without the annoying pretentious excess of a prog rock band which means they were something like a prog band but not completely a prog band.
