Dang! I saw them for free at the Airway Drive-In in 1973 with Foghat. It was sponsored by KSHE radio here in St. Louis.

RIP Dusty

I’m genuinely curious… Did he have surgery for the hip and was on meds that could have messed him up?

Very very unlikely at guy who tours like that at 72 just drops dead of old age.

This is nothing but speculation, but I have know a few people that developed chronic hip pain from arthritis, the pain would get so bad they were popping pain killers like M&Ms. A person can become so desperate for relief they take too many, or start mixing with alcohol, or other meds, go to sleep, and not wake up.

There’s a guy at work who looks like he’s in ZZ Top who was devastated by this today.

The scenario you gave is likely what killed Prince. He had hip surgery also, and reportedly had become dependent on pain relief to continue performing.

My money would have been on Frank Beard to go first with all his addiction problems over the years. This sucks though...been listening to them all morning. Tush was Dusty's biggest song as lead vocalist.

I been up, I been down.
Take my word, my way around.
I ain't askin' for much.
I said, Lord, take me downtown,
I'm just lookin' for some tush.

No, he didn't have surgery. He fell several weeks ago and injured his shoulder and upper back. Shortly after that he fell again backstage and injured his hip and leg. It was so bad that he had to sit on a stool during recent shows.

Actually, during their last few shows, he wasn't even there. Their guitar tech (Elwood) stepped in and played for him.

This news ruined my day.

God damn.

They were one of my earliest favorites in rock and roll and have never lost that spot. Everything from the first album to Deguello is untouchable.

unfortunately this is going to be the normal here soon.

Go listen to the beginning of Fandango which was recorded at the Warehouse in New Orleans and that's all you ever need to know about the majesty of ZZ Top

Usually the elderly who break a hip only live several months. That is what happened to my grandfather.

I only know their greatest hits, saw them in BR in 2016. They rocked it man. It sucks. They were as on then as I could have ever thought. Rock N Roll.

Very sad news for the music world. TX blues rock classic.

I got good at missing her
I practiced all the time
As I drive the Pan-Am highway blues
With the cactus friends of mine.

TX ought to fly flags at half-mast.
