Watched this yesterday.
Today, this popped up in my youtube recommends...
Can Lego Play the Drums?
I love the RHCP and I've seen them live, but somehow I can't help but thing the 2nd video is more awesome in it's own way...
Also it gave me a reason to bump this thread...
Thank you YouTube Algorithm/

Yeah, that guys is extremely talented and it’s insane what he can do.
This reminds me of the who is better? conversation in the past between E VanHalen and Y Malmstein. Sure Malmstein was insanely fast and talented but there’s more to it than just thrashing at 11.
I was in the VanHalen camp.

This one was pretty good too:

Me, not a musician, never played drums in my life: "He's right that half-time will get ya, people don't realize that."

Nothing looks more out of place than an old drummer
i've played with a guy off and on for 40+ years and it amazes me how a dude in his mid 60s can still bring it the way he does

Yngwie isn't 1/10th the guitarist the EVH is. Give me a guitarist who can do more with 1 bend than another guy can do with 300 notes.
I had a similar discussion with some guys the other day who were saying all the hardcore metal drummers are in a league of of their own. Sure, it's impressive to play crazy complex shite with double bass rolling for a 12min song. Technicality doesn't necessarily equate to greatness though. Composition is key

(Full disclosure: also consider the possibility that he and I look nothing alike, but I am still quite fit and attractive in a different way

OP: Thanks, that link was entertaining.

Zero Musical talent over here, but this has been a really fun YouTube rabbit hole! Thanks for posting, OP.

Yeah it's amazing that Chad and Danny Carey are both in their 60s (Danny is 62 and Chad Smith is 61) and can still absolutely bring the thunder on the kit. The amount of strength and stamina it takes to play an entire 2-3 hour live set on the drums has to be just insanely hard. To still be doing it in your 60s is even more wild.
I saw Tool live a while back and I was blown away at the size of Danny Carey. I forgot that he was a legit D1 basketball prospect when he was young. But I was just mesmerized watching this dude play 12-15 minute songs and just crushing the drums and being so perfectly in time. Then to sit back and think he sat down and wrote those parts from scratch makes it even more amazing.
People who enjoy drumming should definitely check out his drum cam of Tool performing "Pneuma" from their stop in Boston on their tour for the Fear Innoculum release.

Chad Smith seems like a douche. Lost respect for RHCP when they just kicked out Josh after he bailed them out for so long as John Frusciante bailed on them. Josh's playing on 'Dark Necessities' is amazing. John is amazing as well, but his inability to get his life together caused him to flake out on the band, Josh stepped in, and then they just tossed Josh aside simply because John, after many years, decided he wanted to come back. Straight douchery, IMO.

Most fans wanted John back. This is an entertainment business after all, and Josh has run its course. RHCP have had several different guitarists get hired and fired. But everyone knows John is the real RHCP guitarist where all the hits came from, and it’s a no-brainer to take him back if he wanted back in.

RHCP are my favorite band and I've seen them live 10 times.
I though Josh was great and that I'm Beside You was some of their greatest work, but c'mon man. This is John Frusciante we're talking about. One of the best living guitar players who was a core part of the band for many years and was one of the big reasons they made it big.
It sucks for Josh, but if John wanted to come back then letting him back in was the right call. It's not like Josh's life was ruined or anything either. He still makes his own music that is pretty good and he's toured extensively with Pearl Jam and Jane's Addiction.

Well, he didn’t just decide to come back. He was asked to come back. There was very little chemistry with Josh and the band was not happy with what they had done / planned to do with their next album with Josh.
Josh is appreciated, but honestly, it never felt quite right with him there. There was always something missing.

Danny's the GOAT for me. Insanely technical, but also insanely tasteful and a great composer. I'm a big tom guy
