Not counting live albums, cover albums, or collaborations.

1. ...And Justice For All
2. Ride the Lightning
3. Master of Puppets
4. Kill ‘Em All
5. Metallica
6. Load
7. Hardwired
8. Death Magnetic
9. ReLoad
10. St. Anger

The first 4 are almost interchangeable but I love the complexity of Justice. It lends itself to immense re-listening capability.

None are worth owning. I gave all of mine away years ago.

P.S. I think Master is their overall best album but my personal favorite to listen to is Justice.

Load
Ride
Black
Kill 'em
Death
ReLoad
Hardwired

I feel like that still underrates Death Magnetic, but not sure that I would jump any.

Master and Justice are mind-blowing on nearly every level.

I feel like Master of Puppets is the politically correct answer to best Metallica album or even best metal album, but it doesn't have the most replay value. I would much rather listen to Kill Em All or even Metallica again.

So, I'll get one thing out of the way. I like but don't love Kill Em All and really liked Hardwired.

1. Master of Puppets.
2. ...And Justice for All.
3. Black Album.
4. Ride the Lightning.
5. Hardwired.
6. Load.
7. Kill Em All.
8. Death Magnetic.
9. Reload.

St. Anger should be last on all lists. I don't dislike Kill Em All, but it has just never connected with me. It's a very high bar, though. I like Reload and listed it #9.

I even like two songs on St. Anger.

Load is an extremely underrated album. It was just such a step out from what Metallica was known for but it’s a fantastic album start to finish. The best songs are on the second half of the album, though, so people already put off by the new sound were additionally only exposed to the weaker part of the album.

I'm ranking them on how often I listen to each album, not necessarily which ones are "better"

I actually bought the top 2 at target for $5 within the last year. FYE usually has the CDs very cheap as well.

I agree with this - with the exception of the "weaker" part of the album comment. The first "side" has Bleeding Me, King Nothing, Until It Sleeps, The House Jack Built and Hero of the Day. I would argue the worst overall song on the album (Cure) is on the 2nd half. Of course Ronnie - the best song and one of my top 5 all time - is on side 2!

See, I think The Outlaw Torn is the best song on the album(and one of my low key favorite Metallica songs) and Ain’t my Bitch and 2x4 (tracks 1 and 2) are perhaps the 2 weakest songs.
