The first 4 are almost interchangeable but I love the complexity of Justice.

I don't disagree in principle, except for Kill 'Em All. I love the raw energy, but it is just so raw from a songwriting and production standpoint. It's still great (they were so young then), but I have Metallica AND Load above KEA (I know - that's probably some sort of Metallica heresy, but it is what it is).

By default I have Reload above Hardwired Death Magnetic and St. Anger, because - outside of a few tracks here and there, all of that post Jason work is complete - pardon my French - shite.

The only Metallica album I truly I don't like is St. Anger. I enjoy all the rest, including Garage Inc.

*I don't count Lulu as part of Metallica's main discography.

No matter what your list is, I think there's gonna be a pretty large gap between second to last and St Anger.

Yeah, no matter how *meh* I think Death Magnetic or Hardwired are, you've got to be a pretty bad album to be worse than St. Anger.

I think Hardwired is clearly above Death Magnetic.

I don’t have the balls to post mine because my St Anger is wayyyyy higher than all of yours. I was an angsty teen and loved that trash can snare.

Vocals on Justice were best.

Hey man, there’s no wrong answer. Except maybe putting ReLoad above Load. That’s just weird.

While I don't do this, I hold the relatively unpopular opinion that both Load and Reload are underrated - and I held that opinion prior to the release of St. Anger (or the film, Some Kind of Pussy, for that matter).

Particularly in the post-St. Anger period, how a Metallica "fan" dogs the black album or Load/Reload for that matter is beyond me.

Full disclosure - I didn't really pay attention to Metallica until Justice. Sure, I went back to the earlier catalogue, but I cut my teeth on Justice and the black album, Metallica wise.

Load and Reload are certainly "in line" with what they were doing at the time (the Jason period, for lack of a better term). And the stuff after is ... just awful.

I think Hardwired is a very good album. Spit out the bone and Halo on Fire in particular are great songs. Death Magnetic is good but not as good. I could listen to Suicide & Redemption 100 times in a row and not get tired of it.

I really liked Hardwired. Spit out the Bone, Murder One, Now That We're Dead and Dream No More all have really high replay value.

The title track is probably ny least favorite track, but past that there are some really solid tracks.

as a guy who got in the game late for Metallica, i really think Hardwired is a good album

I also oddly like the sound of ...Justice

Its so raw and guitar and drum heavy, which is unique

Puppets is the best album musically. There’s no bad song imo. Justice I think I enjoy listening to the most though bc the production value got so much better. I do enjoy the black album too. Load has some good stuff as well it’s just a different style than earlier works.

You are usually pretty sharp with these analyses, but this is a bridge too far. Death Magnetic is "awful"? You might be the only Metallica fan I know who thinks that. Even Beyond Magnetic was good. And Hardwired is not "awful". It actually has some awesome stuff on it. The only "awful" thing was the production on St. Anger. Even half the songs on there are awesome.
