Dickey was (or still is?) one of my all time favs. Wonder if he still plays anymore at home.
It's been a rough few years for him since his stroke.

Didn't see him mentioned much even in this thread, but Buckethead is one of the greatest guitarists alive IMO. He can play almost any style even though he's known for shred, and is a master of bass guitar as well.
Vivian Campbell is another guy I don't see mentioned very often. He just ripped shite up as Dio's lead guitarist and can still play very well to this day. Another name from the mid 80's/early 90's is Vito Bratta, the lead guitarist for White Lion. Some of the material he played then would be considered very advanced by today's standards. Unfortunately he can't play much anymore due a hand injury.

How are we on page 4 and no mention of Randy Rhoads or Richie Blackmore yet?
And no Warren Haynes?
Because the question was great but rarely mentioned. All three of those guys are frequently mentioned as all time greats.

... this guy,
you hold a pick and play like this?
(not me)
No, I use a thumbpick and fingers mostly. I don't really try to play just like anyone else.
He's somebody that I really like listening to though.

..but is rarely mentioned when people talk of great guitarists.
Seems a couple of people in this thread didnt answer this part, jumped right to "Name a guitarist that is great".
That said,
Roger Fisher of Heart is one that comes to mind.
Prince, was a really good guitar player that was underrated in my opinion.
Tommy Shaw of STYX could tear some guitar up but is not a name I hear come up a lot.
