Musicians who went away, and stayed away

I guess the obvious pick would be Syd Barrett, who pretty much remained a somewhat functional hermit until his passing.
Another pick is John Deacon (Queen). Been off the grid for 2+ decades, hasn't participated with the various iterations of Queen, and to my knowledge, didn't even show up for the Bohemian Rhapsody movie premiere. News has been scarce about him, and hope he's enjoying his retirement...

Layne Staley basically sat in his room playing video games and doing drugs (crack and heroin) for years until he died.

Vinnie Vincent was THIS close to making the list, having disappeared after screwing over fans who pre-ordered a box set he never delivered on, and just seeming like an overall dysfunctional mess in general. However, he recently resurfaced and made a few appearances (including an appearance for one of Gene Simmons' money-grab 'Vault' road show stops)..but in short order, he's managed to burn several bridges (again), so I expect him to be crawling back into his hole shortly...

His band mates say they are still good friends. They say he still helps them on the finance side of their band. When Freddie passed he just felt that it was time to do something else. I do wish he'd make the occasional appearance when the band is honored, but he likes his privacy.

I'd like to see "Queen" in concert, but I can't bring myself to spend a house payment on tickets for 1/2 of the band...if John went on tour with them tho, I'd be awfully tempted to pull the trigger on a ticket.

Brian Wilson?
He resurfaces, but he is a prime example of mental illness “treated” by mounds of drugs. Then the damage those drugs did to an already fragile mind.

Tom Delonge and Courtney Love are still young enough to attempt a comeback but I don't see it happening. Kris Novoselic will show up for an occasional jam with the Foo Fighters but for the most part he's done too.

Bill Withers walked away from it in the mid-80's and never came back.

Bill Berry left and became a farmer. But REM was past their prime.

speaking of farmers, Jim Martin, former Faith No More guitarist, grows giant pumpkins

What about Meg White? I don't think she's done anything since the white stripes broke up.

The thread is about musicians.

Aldo Nova video was played every few hours on MTV and then disappeared.....and I think Vinny Vincent is a lady-man now.

Aldo had a few albums since, wicki says he is still in the biz, just more as a writer and producer

Fred Neil (March 16, 1936 – July 7, 2001) was an American folk singer-songwriter in the 1960s and early 1970s. He did not achieve commercial success as a performer and is mainly known through other people's recordings of his material – particularly "Everybody's Talkin'", which became a hit for Harry Nilsson after it was used in the film Midnight Cowboy in 1969. Though highly regarded by contemporary folk singers, he was reluctant to tour and spent much of the last 30 years of his life assisting with the preservation of dolphins.

Neil left Woodstock in the mid-1970s and spent his remaining decades on the shores of southern Florida, involved in the Dolphin Project.

Lee Mavers (The La's)
Basically took forever to release their s/t debut record and was bitter because it wasn't the final version he wished to release..
After, he turned into a recluse and we've never got the follow up release and only a handful of appearances from the band or him since the 1991 promotional tour of that record..
