Beach Boys' Party!

That's mainly a silly covers record... but there is no doubting the stark contrast from one release to the other...

Its really not. There's more of a gap between CFH and VDOP then there is between Power Metal and CFH.
I don't doubt you are sincere, but that is a lonely opinion.

Another one Beastie Boys License to Ill to Paul's Boutique. That one probably wins.

While Paul's Boutique did not get the commercial or critical success it deserved, it was not a better album than License to Ill, which is by far the best Beastie Boys album.

I actually think the British version of Help is as good.

I'm a Rubber Soul homer and I still think this is an indefensible claim.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

One Hot Minute to Californication

It’s probably not fair as Frusciante didn’t contribute to One Hot Minute, but it’s the first that came to mind for me.

I liked Planet Waves
planet waves “should” have been a classic. Bob Dylan and the band, new material (after several cover/soundtrack/bullshite albums), in advance of a major tour together (bobs first since 1966 also with what was then the hawks), plenty of time and resources to rehearse and make some magic. I like it too, but it’s a minor footnote to his and their career.

as it turned out, only forever young made any impact at all, and even a good song like tough mama is only remembered by the JGB cover. Both the Band and Dylan quickly discarded the entire affair and all moved on to other things.

and then…an unimpeachable masterpiece and one of the greatest albums by anyone ever

It was recorded over a three-day weekend.
And I thought "Something There is About You" was a fine song.

The British release is way different than the movie soundtrack, no doubt. There are 2 Rubber Soul songs on the British Help!
