You'll do fine. I've been playing with some guys in the guitar player's basement for a year and we did a tight 20 a couple of months ago and it went great. We had the material down cold and the rest was easy.

Knock 'em dead, bro.

Writing songs on acoustic guitar is the single most stress-relieving thing I do. I do it for myself first and foremost, but most people seem to dig it. I put out an EP last July, and a full album in 2013. They’re on I Tunes, Spotify, You Tube, etc...
It’s kinda fun because I’ll go in the studio and lay down my basic rhythm guitar and vocal tracks first. Then, depending on what direction I wanna go with the song, I’ll call on some buddies to add drums, bass guitar, maybe other instruments. What’s cool is you see the song from the bare beginning transform into something different by the time it’s complete. It’s a fun process.
I’m actually heading back into the studio in a few weeks to begin recording another 5 song EP. I’m glad to see so many other people putting their heart and soul into original tunes!

A few of us on here play in bands. I just starting gigging again after 20 years at the age 40. We and Kingbob's band are playing a show together in May.

My process is similar. My buddy will send me a rough acoustic and vocal track. I'll then cut the drum track, and build off of it. I'm ALWAYS amazed when we're finished and I can see how far we've come from point A to B. It's my favorite part.

Dude this post is awesome. That’s kind of why I started writing recently, stress relief. And I feel like I have a lot to say, and don’t know any other way to say it than music. Keep killing it man. Would love to hear your music if you feel like sharing.

yes

I can't walk by it without it stopping me in my tracks and forcing me to pick it up. I rarely watch tv without it in my hands. I realize I'm not getting much better by doing this, I just enjoy holding it.

I have 4-5 people I can play with that live within 5 minutes of me. I feel bad for folks that don't have that (similar levels of skill with folks, easy to get together, etc).

Did I say that?......well OK.

I had a guitar teacher tell me that, as soon as you sit down with the serious intention of playing an instrument, you're a musician. You just may not be a very good one yet.

I love practicing. It's like a never ending puzzle.

and it's better than watching tv.

Yes I do. I have shared a few of my songs on here in the past because I am a glutton for punishment, haha.

I really wish I had the time and expertise/money to record some more stuff. I really need to spend some serious time this summer between bar prep sessions to learn how to actually use my audiobox to make stuff that sounds like not crap.

I’d love to but if I link it here, I’ll give away my identity. If you like though, I can post my email when you’re online. Give me a shout and I’ll link some tunes to you. My stuff is more singer/songwriterish, and not as mainstream as the stuff posted so far.

Been writing songs for almost 40 years, with really, not much commercial success, but I keep doing it.
Not a fantastic guitar player, but I have some things that I do well. Not a great singer,I just try to get my point across.
The Songs though, they will always be mine. They come raw from my imagination, and I build them with nothing but thought. No matter where you are,no matter what your situation is,you can still do that.
Like everything we do in life, attack it with a purpose. Don't just drift along seeing what happens.Learn to appreciate personal achievements and be able to give yourself credit. If you like it,and it went where you wanted, you are a success. Build on that.

If you are just starting to write, make sure you understand now, about common structure, and use that as a guideline(it's not the the end all/be all)just a guideline.

What you need to do,is FINISH all of your songs. Work hard at making them finished, even if it is not so great of an idea. Always do this. That work will pay off.
Later on,when you get a great idea, those songs will write themselves.

I have a song with a link posted on this board.
I got the idea off of a thread here,it gave me an idea, I wrote the song, recorded the demo and posted the link.
I think,if you want, you can try to find it,or ask me,and I will post the link for you again. You can listen and decide if my advice is worth taking.

What the hell, here is the link

Auggie, you've got a great country tone to your voice. I'd love to cut some drum tracks for you. Hit me up!

I am just a writer and guitar player. I just want to do demos to pitch my songs.
I don't know what Kevin's real long term plans are.
He also has a small studio and music store, along with some other business interests.
He does have a great voice though, and has some videos on youtube to check out.

I work on guitars nowadays more than playing them, many of you know that. I spend more time test driving other guys guitars than I do griming up my own, but I've been making it a point to find time to play "my" guitars (I'm fortunate to have the nicest collection I've ever had in my life nowadays) plus get my chops back up like they were in the gigging days.

I threw in the towel on decades of gigging in 2010, banded out and gigged out and band-drama'ed out mixed with getting older and hopefully wiser I guess. Still no desire to get back on stage. But considering there's no such thing as a retired musician, just a musician between gigs, we'll tack a "never say never" disclaimer in.

I don't write anymore but I've written in the past.
