I play the songs my band writes. They write pretty good songs. We have about 20 original songs that we gig with.

I still think me getting off the bass at the end of the first song sounds badass on recording. I'm glad the sound engineer kept it in.

I just play other people's music.

Read an interesting article in Acoustic Monthly with an interview with John Fogerty on Songwriting.

Said he's still working on some songs he started on 25 years ago.

Keeps a notebook that he jots down things that come to him.

Said he always has a guitar in his hands.

Talked about the song titles that Chet Atkins and other Instrumentalists used.Said their song titles were always really cool names that put an image in your mind.

Said he wrote "Mystic River" in his notebook 25 years ago. That's his latest album.

I play little guitar riffs when I'm just messing around.

But I'm still discovering new songs after 16 years.

I'm into folk music,I guess.Songs that tell a story.

But,are fun to play. Some songs just feel better. The Chord changes feel right.Sound right.

Thanks Bob, I'd consider my style very funky ( although maybe not to the extent of HaiKarate's). I actually know him, maybe I know you too!

It is very funky. Sounds like the bass player is playing a jazz bass.

Ooooo superb bass

ETA: Modulus has a few lines actually named "Funk ......". That's how you know your sound is funky.

It'd be weird if you didn't, frankly.

Was that the one with Ria Rosa? They've been starting to do quite a few cool shows on top of the commerce building and on the patio at Magpie Cafe downtown. I've also been to a couple shows on the roof of the Shaw Center by Tsunami.

Yeah she opened for us. That's weird to say. Nobody ever opens for us. We open for them.

Cool. Maria's a really cool chick. I think my lead guitarist might have a crush on her, haha. Her drummer, JT , recorded and mixed the EP I shared earlier.

Would it help you if I told you that I'm young enough to have had many of the members of Hai Karate as teachers in middle and high school?

I would kill to have had their bass player as my music teacher.

He filled in with us for a gig at Lava Cantina a few years back and absolutely crushed it.

sorry for the slight hijack here but it does deal with song writing. I've always wondered this...

how does someone besides Dylan write a song called Forever Young and get away with it?
