how does someone besides Dylan write a song called Forever Young and get away with it?

Weird huh?
Probably because Dylan ignores it.
He could have sued the freakin hell out of Rod Stewart, and he would no doubt have won.

When You are Dylan though, you just let a dweeb like Rod Stewart slide, along with all the other wannabees.

i'm so grateful for the reception this thread has gotten. I am hoping to keep it going.

I finished 2 of my first songs Wednesday. Might get them recorded tomorrow night and I'll bring em here. Nothing special, just some folk

Not nearly as talented as some of you guys. But I enjoy listening to songs on the radio, then going back home to try and see if I can play them. And when I nail down the strums, tone and rhythm, its a great feeling. I love my fender strat. Used to have some garbage Peavy when I was in 7th grade and finally sold it to buy this guitar just a few years ago. So worth the money.

I wrote this one right after LSU beat Bama in 2010. I'm doing most of the guitar work and some harmonies. 2 cd's are out there and another is mostly done.

I play the songs my band writes. They write pretty good songs. We have about 20 original songs that we gig with.

I still think me getting off the bass at the end of the first song sounds badass on recording. I'm glad the sound engineer kept it in.

Broke, that is some great stuff, I love the way that first song sounds,I mean it, I have a song very similar in chord progression, working on it in the studio now, trying to get more of a spaghetti western sound on it,using my baritone guitar.Your band is kickin arse.
That 2nd song, that is some of the best lyrics I have heard in a long time. It's like a much harder edge REM type thing ,I really love it.
Hope to hear more soon.

When this thread was posted the other day, I really couldn't check out everybody's stuff, because I was out on the road, and it burns up so much data.
Now that I'm home, I'm gonna go back through this thread and listen to everybody.

Gigs and sessions on drums, yes. Lived in Baton Rouge for a while, now living in Gonzales. Grew up in the Swamps!

A couple recent tracks :

Pinch
Clover

Man,I really like both tracks, but that 1st one has some great stuff going for it.
It has an Allman brothers, with an updated groove thing going on,and a great hook.
A really good country voice can sell the hell out of that song.

Man..I used to splash that stuff on like a fiend every morning and night.
Wow though, that is some serious musicianship there, when it was starting out, I was expecting to hear the Neville Brothers, but the singer sounds closer to Stevie Wonder..the horns are great.

I work on guitars nowadays more than playing them, many of you know that. I spend more time test driving other guys guitars than I do griming up my own, but I've been making it a point to find time to play "my" guitars (I'm fortunate to have the nicest collection I've ever had in my life nowadays) plus get my chops back up like they were in the gigging days. I threw in the towel on decades of gigging in 2010, banded out and gigged out and band-drama'ed out mixed with getting older and hopefully wiser I guess. Still no desire to get back on stage. But considering there's no such thing as a retired musician, just a musician between gigs, we'll tack a "never say never" disclaimer in. I don't write anymore but I've written in the past.

You know man, everyone here knows, that you are an attention to detail type of dude.
Even in the way you relate your technical information and opinions to us laymen, and I promise you, I for 1 appreciate it.
I would love to hear some stuff that you wrote.

Also, how is that campfire ammo box guitar coming along?
Last month or so, I have been in a pretty time consuming series of runs for a company that has been eating up my time. I finished that this week, and going to take some time for important stuff, like checking out your craftsmanship, finishing some demos, and improving my gun collection, watching cartoons with my daughter.

Really love it, have you thought about revisiting it maybe? So that you just get to the best part quicker?

Thank you! I am wanting to start recording again soon, once the family gets settled into our new house. I might revisit it at that point, but I have a lot of other stuff I want to put together, too.

My goal is to start playing live again by the end of the year. We will see how that goes.

Seriously, nowadays, people have such short attention spans, intros don't work as well as they use to.
That song has some meat, cut right to it.
Hope to hear more.

Thx, pal! Pro tools platinum and the singer works professionally as a sound engineer in a studio in Seattle. I'll post a few more when I get the op.
