That's what I'm trying to get past. Just let go of the perfectionist part and throw it all out.
as long as you're happy with the end result. I have a few songs that are probably the simplest, least technical things I've made up, but I like them because I can point to very specific events or feelings that shaped them. They're not perfect, but they convey what I want them to and that's good enough for me.

If anyone is interested, I'd post the latest track we've recorded.

absolutely.

SO you've been playing gigs or sessions for the past decade on drums? Are you in LA?

that's kinda where I am. The few songs I have down come straight from within, so I enjoy how they sound. They're kinda catchy and rhythmic so others kinda like them too.

I would love to write some technical stuff (a la Ben Howard). But I see myself more of a rhythm guitarist and vocalist with occasional riffs here and there. I need bandmates to bring the technical pieces. and I'm ok with that

Same here. I would love to jam with three technically sound musicians just to see where it pushes me

I have been making myself play with my buddy who has played guitar for 20+ years and is technically light years ahead of me. It makes me feel nervous and dumb, but he understands what I'm trying to be so I play my chords and he lays down over the top. It's an awesome feeling getting into a pocket and hearing him go at it

Thanks bud. We're working really hard on this album, for ourselves. And it is validating to hear that others enjoy it. Thanks again man.

Finishing it definitely the hardest part to me right now cuz I want it to be perfect.

It will never be perfect. But if you are stuck then put it aside and start on a new song. You can also get together with your buddy and play what you have and he may have an idea to make it better or to finish it. Ideas will also pop into your head when you play it with someone else. Most songwriters have way more unfinished songs than finished ones.

thanks man, that's good advice. I just want to have something I can call my own. Even if it's just a couple songs, but I want like 5-6 I can throw on a demo.

Like it! Pinch has an Atlanta Rythym Section vibe to it. Nice.

That's why I wanted to start this discussion, I'm glad you guys have sent thoughtful responses and not just bashed me for being GAY OP.

I would love to keep an open dialogue on writing and playing to help me through my highs and lows. I suffer from pretty intense stage fright. Probably going to my first open mic in years tomorrow night
