Damn, you just got to be a show off arse in this thread..
That's some good shite.
I love it man.
Might seem like a weird question:
How do you feel about that song: Nothing But Wind ?
I have something really similar, Titled: Slipping Through Our Hands.
I have been messing with that song for 30 years,It's like my Tangled Up In Blue.

Well, like all of those songs, I wrote it. The hook riff at the begnning, I came up with it in high school but never could seem to find a song idea for. One night, the idea for the first half of the song just hit me, channeling one of the strum patterns from Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic”, and the chords seemed to work. The fast section came from us playing around in practice and just sounded super cool so we ran with it.
The lyrics came to me from being a big ASOIAF nerd and hearing the phrase “words are wind” over and over again. The rest of the lyrics are built off of me thinking back to when I was a few months into a relationship where the girl said “I love you” firsf, but I didn’t say it back. Around that same time, a hurricane struck that knocked all the communications out for several days, so I took that concept and ran with it “Texas Flood” style. It’s about regretting not saying “I love you” when I had the chance (granted, in real life, there was no real negative consequences, so some artistic liberties were taken). “Nothing, but wind” is whatever meaningless words I said instead.
The screaches were something I did for the first time in the studio, actually. I was channelling one of my biggest influences, Paul McCartney, thinking about the ending to one of my favorite songs, “Hey Jude”.
Any other thoughts, you’d like?

That's funny That you mention Van Morrison, because mine kind of came from there also.
And it started with a screen door slamming in a storm.
I was at a girl's house thinking about somebody else.
In the song, I make it about 1 girl, and she's the same person from start to end, putting me through a never ending chase.
Really though,it's a mash up of never being satisfied with what I have.
It's more about me,than it is about any girl.

Van Morrison is king in rural South Louisiana. Definitely one of my big songwriting influences. I got to use a little bit of a lot of my idols on that EP:
White Lines was my attempt to step outside the mold of what i normally play and write a love song for my SO in the style of Wilco.
Railroad was another song that I had the riff in my head since high school and turned into a song years later. The inspiration was a video of a tornado blowing a train off of a bridge. I was channeling Zeppelin, Golden Earing, Bo Diddley, etc.
Where the Sidewalk ends is my attemp at being Dave Grohl and writing a Foo Fighters song. It was the closest thing to pop/punk I could convince my band to play, haha. That whole song was written during band practices by just coming up with riffs and trading solos back and forth. When we couldn’t figure out how to end it, one of the ofher band members came up with the idea to just change the style to reggae, Sublime style. My solos (i.e. the less technically impressive ones) are based on foo fighters in the first half, and Allman Bros in the second. The whole “take my hand, we’ll chase the sunset” was based off of something my SO told me one time when she wanted me to cone with her right after work to see this gorgeous sunset downtown before it was over.
Burn It Down was also written in practice building off of a riff. Its spiratual daddy is “Whippin’ Post” by the Allman Brothers. The lyrics were just me imagining the most toxic, crazy, dirty, jealous relationship possible. The opening was an homage to “Bring it On Home” by Led Zeppelin
“Nothing But Wind” is my Black Crowes style song. The Bridge was my attempt to one-up their lyrical style, and is still probably my favorite section of lyrics I’ve ever written:
I can’t just fear reaction
My love needs no retraction
We can’t deny this attraction
What we have's more than distraction
FYI, my band and shutterspeed’s band are going to he playing a show in Gulfport together on May 19th at Goodtimes Sports Bar

I'm gonna be there.
I will be the guy that looks like an old Viking that should be dead already.

I occasionally do open mics around Baton Rouge. I also sometimes sit in on trumpet or sing a song or two with a couple jazz/r&b groups I’m friends with.
I have one track that I recorded for the Nash Next competition by myself somewhere, but I’d have to find it. I’m just pretty limited singing and playing at the same time and the music in my head has too many parts for just a singer/songwriter to do justice. I do want to start doing more solo stuff, though. I have a looper pedal now for that reason. I have dozens more songs that vary in style from Benjy Davis to Sleep to Alter Bridge to Gaslight Anthem to Chicago to Soundgarden and even Eric Church, but I lack the time and money/expertise to record much of it these days.

Cool, I’ll be the awkward bearded guy on rhythm guitar

Maybe you just need to put some gas in your car,and drive up to Nashville now and then.
Not saying that it will make you better, but it might temper your expectations.
If you have the knack, high self expectations are a must, but at the same time, there ain't nothing wrong with the simple stuff.
I know you know what I mean.

Thanks for checking out the tracks Auggie. I wrote and played most of the instruments on that project - all vocals too - recorded it at my house. I have since formed the band Hai Karate ( 10 pieces ) and we occasionally play in the BR area

Thanx for putting it on here for me to check out
Would be cool if this board becomes a bit about that.

Agreed, better than trolling back and forth about outlaw country and jam bands.
I found that other track I was looking for:
Nothing's Changed At All
I wrote this song my freshman year of college. I recorded it in my band's practice space by myself with a presonus audiobox after work every day for a week last summer. This is about as much as I can do by myself with that little recording set up as I'm qualified for. I really wish I knew how to use that thing better so I could produce higher quality recordings than this.

I've been doing the singer/songwriter thing as a hobby for about 5 years now. I have a couple of songs online and if my buddy/bandmate ever gets his act together we should have more up.

got this amp stand today, pretty good, cheap/light, fits in your amp, works well (not so well on smaller amps as it needs good weight distribution)

I can't say I "write" music because I can't read it. I do, however, create original tunes on my guitar (Alvarez classical). They are a mix of Folk and New age with elements of blues, rock, and jazz thrown in. Most are finger-picked rather them strummed. None are terribly complex technically, but they are sonically pleasing, I guess.
Karmapol1ce says he's going to take me into the studio someday soon to record them for posterity. I have about 20 tunes to record. Some of them are decades old, but a lot I came up with in the last year.
I go through phases with playing. Sometimes a lot, sometimes seldom. I was playing a lot this last year until my recent illness.
