Diddy has revealed that he pays legendary rocker Sting a whopping $5,000 per day for sampling The Police's song "Every Breath You Take," which Sting wrote, without permission.
"Those guys just take your shite, put it on a record and deal with the legality later," he said when asked how Diddy came about sampling "Every Breath You Take."
"Elton John told me, 'You gotta hear ["I'll Be Missing You'"], you're gonna be a millionaire,'" he added.
"I said, 'I am a millionaire!' He said, 'You're gonna be a millionaire twice over!'

Diddy isn't the only rapper Sting has profited from after they sampled one of his songs.
The late Juice WRLD sampled Sting's "Shape of My Heart" on his 2018 hit "Lucid Dreams," which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and to date has sold over 10 million units in the United States alone.
Sting is said to own 85% of Juice WRLD's song because of the sample. Sting told Billboard in 2018 that the money he's made from the "Lucid Dreams" will put his "grandkids through college."
"frick @officalSting and his whole team."

I guess I'm a poor, but 5000 a day seems excessive, when it's for life...but maybe not if it makes him far more than that.

Sting is a choad but he was in the right to sue these guys and win.

This shite happens with amateurs all the time, but Diddy was already big time when this happened and should have known better. What a dumb frick.

isnt Diddy worth like $900 million? I think he’ll probably be okay. Spotify revenue from that one song probably covers that every day.

If true, the number is $1.825 million per year. The song came out 25 years ago, so that is $45.625 million. Seems very excessive.

In the interview, Sting said he and Diddy are friends now.

Did Sting have his people dangle Diddy off of a balcony by his ankles?

Borrowing (aka theft) is rife in music as we all know. It comes down to how much you steal, how blatant it is, and how litigious the creator is.
I felt pretty stupid when about 2 years ago it hit me the drum intro on Rock and Roll is straight from Keep a Knockin'. I had listened to Led Zepplin IV several thousand times over 50 years and Rock and Roll no telling how many times individually and it just never hit me.
