The last album they ever recorded together, and IMHO the greatest pop/rock album ever released. While Sgt. Pepper gets that honor in most lists, I think this one is "more accessible" music, if you will.
--The Side 2 Medley rules, and even in recent years I've heard numerous bands cover it live from start to finish.
--The only two singles off of the album, "Something" and "Here Come the Sun" were George's best contributions to the band.
--"And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make". Great finish and maybe the greatest lyric from that era.
--"Her Majesty"...how many albums actually have a punchline?

The Beatles were before my time but possibly my all-time favorite. Abbey Road was my favorite for many years, then surpassed by other stuff, but possibly my favorite again.
One song that I think is sometimes overlooked is 'You Never Give Me Your Money'. Most people naturally think of the way the song begins but my favorite parts are the middle and end sections of the song.
Abbey Road is one of those albums that makes me wonder how much the production engineers enhanced the overall arrangement and sound quality of the actual songs.

I was wondering why 98.1 was playing the medley today, that was an unexpected treat

Oh Darling is awesome, didn't hear that song until later in life. It doesn't get a lot of airplay.

My 50th Anniversry box set should be here tomorrow!

I knew I'd reached the promise land when I heard the Side Two Medley.

He had finally come into his own as a songwriter and the band broke up. I have little doubt he would be considered an equal to Lennon/McCarthy as composers had they done just 2 more albums.

How many albums are able to make something as mundane as a crosswalk into an international tourist attraction?

My favorite track from Abbey Road. And this is a recent phenomenon.

Harrison brought to the band, his All Things Must Pass song, but the recordings of it went nowhere, and at one point, he quit, only to return a week later.

Without looking it up, I always assumed the lyrics (1st part of You Never Give Me Your Money) were about a man trying to cheat on his girl. Then that situation is connected to 'Carry That Weight' implying that he has to live with that decision for the rest of his life.
Finally, the ending wraps it up with the lyric of The love you take is equal to the love you make.
I have no idea if the above is the intent or if I'm just reaching for correlations like I always do.

I wish All Things Must Pass was in the 50th Anniversary Deluxe...this is a great release. I do wish it had more, tho, but the notes admit a lot of the interesting original parts (to me, anyway) were overwritten in subsequent takes in 4-track or 8-track takes/remixes. I would love to hear all the takes and evolution of Here Comes The Sun, Something, Come Together...hell, I wouldn’t mind a CD for each fricking song. This is great.

Just got the 5.1 surround mix today. Giving it a listen... on "Here Comes the Sun" and it's great so far, can't wait to hear the second side medley.

Richie Havens did "Here comes the Sun" some time after the Beatles. I really like his rendition.

I think it's one of The Beatles most underrated songs. McCartney's vocals are impressive and for the Ringo haters, just listen to his drumming on this song. He was a good drummer and a perfect fit for their songs.
Oh Darling

I'd like to be,

TRYING. TO. REFRAIN. FROM. GOING. BALLISTIC.
That being said, I've probably skipped over that song while listening this album every time since the 80's. They can take that song, put it in a yellow submarine, and sink it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

A. R. stands the test of time. One of the greatest albums , ever. Sgt Peppers is sort of a stand alone project.
