I’ve heard people say Beatles and Led Zeppelin and I thought they were crazy. For me it’s U2. I noticed this with Neil Young with his latest controversy but even though I disagree with him I still appreciate his music. It’s actually the only cd I own because I ordered it thinking it was vinyl. I don’t like any U2 songs.

they were ok early on. "new year's day", the red rocks concert

but their drone & roll style got tiresome pretty quickly. bono being a douche did not help

Good point. Singer sounds like a chick but the band jams.

The Grateful Dead.

That smart-arse kinda country, kinda folk, kinda self-indulgent yack had to have lots of drugs involved to get a following.

If you can't listen to YYZ and understand how people like Rush, I feel sorry for you.

REM
They were the college Byrds for the '80s. You may not like them, but their popularity is no great mystery.
quote:

Niel Young
Jim Croce
Singer-songwriters when that was a big commercial deal. Croce and Young during his Harvest period dealt with subjects in not terribly complex terms. Predictably popular.
quote:

Huey Lewis
Always thought he sang flat but he gave mindless partiers of the '80s their soundtrack. Again, not surrpising he was popular.

you want me to lie?

I've hated The Eagles (long before that horrible movie), Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey all my life. But I understand why they were popular.

Am I being too edgy for you?

For me it's Iron Maiden. I've tried on several occasions to get into them, and I just don't get it. I like a couple of their songs, but don't understand their global appeal.

I'd say that about 95% of the bands billed on When We Were Young fits this description for me.
