Bad (or inexplicable songs) from great bands

How does a band this good, with songs like Outside Looking In, American Band, Shinnin’ On and Sin’s a Good Man’s Brother (criminally underrated) record a song like The Locomotion? It makes no sense.
What are some other examples.

Actually id makes a lot of sense if you watch their raise a fall doc.
In band fighting and recording labels control over music make a lot of difference.
This story could have been Tool but they stuck together and refused to make music if they couldn't control the final outcome. After many many years they are back to making "Their" music.

A lot of good groups went from good in the 70s to bad or weaker in the 80s, for my tastes. It was the demands of the music industry, I reckon.

Same. The music video does make it better. But if you are just listening to it without the video it’s bizarre and makes no sense and Tom is one of my top 3 favorite artists.
