Personally, I'm not sure he was all that influential as a musician.
But his descent into schizophrenic madness was very influential for Pink Floyd and it certainly influenced a lot of good music

…and Chuck Berry was around for “only” 64 years. However, the poster would have been partially correct had he said John Rutsey instead of Neil Peart.

Yikes. Is it the same person?
Maybe I’m wrong but they don’t look like they sound very good.

Hey STigers, I hope you're doing well.

As well as one could be I guess
Thanks for hoping.
I also hope you’re doing well
for real. Let me know
Now go post a funny video on my other thread.
Should be right up your alley

And that is exactly why I included him. He influenced so much music that they went on to make without him, which subsequently influence untold numbers of musicians. I also think he had a significant direct influence on the avant garde scene.

Beatles and Nirvana
As stereotypical as those answers are, what they did to music is insane

47 years is a short amount of time?
I'll take my down vote and spanking but I'll try to explain my entries.
Neil was influential not because he played over 47 years. Rather, over a few years (say '77-'81) the masses heard extreme drumming via say Tom Sawyer or Limelight like no one had ever done before.
Similarly, Chuck Berry. He would've been 90% as influential had he played only say five years as if played 50 years. His influence wasn't because of longevity but because of innovation.
One could argue EVH and "Eruption." But Eruption never got the air play that these Rush songs did.
Anyway. Love music. Love talking about music with music aficionados.

Terry Kath
Chicago was obviously never the same band after his death.

John Fogerty even though he is still alive. His production from 1968-1970 is unreal. Six albums in three years.
