for anyone to consider the Clash a punk band - much less the greatest punk band of all time - just mystifies the frick out of me. They sound nothing like punk rock.
The Clash were punk, but they were also pop, new wave, ska/reggae, hip-hop, and others. The Clash are considered punk because of their anti-establishment ethos, and also because some of their sound and attitude helped define what punk was. Listen to some interviews with Joe Strummer and tell me he wasn't punk as frick. They ran in the same punk circles as some of the other big punk names from their time. They were on the cutting edge of their time by blending genres and trying new things.
The first couple albums had a good bit of punk, but by the time they got to London Calling, they had started to diversify their sound a lot more. When I was exposed to The Clash as a young teen, I was exposed to a half dozen genres that opened my eyes. I love The Clash. That should not surprise anyone seeing as how my avatar has always been Paul Simonon from the London Calling cover photo.

This. Perfectly said.
No one was pushing the boundaries of music like they were. No one was attempting something like London calling that melded punk, ska, rockabilly, rock n roll, etc. seamlessly.

The reason I cannot do it, nor agree with anyone's list is, Punk isn't a genre. Punk was an attitude.

With the exception of Sean's house, I pretty much know where all the filming locations for that movie are. Unfortunately many of them are now gone, including the mall where that scene was filmed.

I can't do just five, sorry.
And Out Come the Wolves is such a perfect album, start to finish, it's hard for me to not have it number one.
The rest aren't in any sort of order.

Misfits - Static Age
Bad Religion - Generator
Dropkick Murphys - Do Or Die
Husker Du - Zen Arcade
NOFX - Punk In Drublic
The Clash - London Calling / Give 'Em Enough Rope
Screaching Weasel - Boogadabooga / My Brain Hurts
Social Distortion - Social Distortion
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God

What, you mean they could actually play and focused on songwriting and
arranging. They transformed punk in a positive way…

I clicked on this thread to see what their definition of punk was. Turns out we have different ideas.
Yeah, I always separate out hardcore (minor threat, ssd, black flag, circle jerks, etc) from the more general punk label... but there are a lot of gray areas in punk..
My five would probably be..
Ramones - s/t
Clash - London Calling
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
X - Los Angeles
