See, that's the problem with claiming Punk is a genre. Blondie was as Punk as it gets.

Yeah, but a PERSON can have a punk Attitude, but play a different kind of music...

I won't disagree. Slicing up music into boxes can be silly...

This is the problem with punk. It isn't a kind of music. People tried to make it one though.

Ramones - s/t
Clash - London Calling
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
X - Los Angeles

If you asked me to make a list, that would be it. Maybe not my personal choices but those are pretty definitive to make a solid list.

While Blondie has punk tones in a lot of the CBGB's sense, they just did so much across the spectrum. Do-wop, punk, reggae, disco, power pop, funk, rap, rock, that it's hard to label.

Hmmm, maybe that is punk.

or maybe that's new wave.

Since most here don't consider The Clash to be punk I'm assuming Sublime would be thrown in the same category?

The Clash evolved but their first album was a punk prototype. Sublime was never punk but more reggae/ska inspired.

Rancid, … And Out Come The Wolves (1995) I wanted to ride for at least one punk album that (1) came out when I was in high school that was also (2) a remnant of that nineties skate punk sound. I actually saw Rancid on this tour and it was a pivotal “rock show” experience of my teens. A sentimental choice, sure, but this album is fantastic and holds up!

First album that came to mind. It’s pretty much the perfect punk album. Great musicality and diversity of songs.
