Say what you will about Sean Penn, but that moment he realizes his daughter is dead is one of the more harrowing scenes ever put to film. It made me feel physically ill when I first saw it.

While I think Penn is overrated now, the praise he received for this performance is well earned, IMHO.

He was on his A-game the whole film.

When he described to his father in law how her body looked… that’s when you knew the killer in him was ready to come out.

Great movie and book. Same author, Dennis lehane, wrote this and Gone Baby Gone which is like a 5 book series.

Shutter Island as well, although not in Boston.

The Social Network might be my favorite movie set in Boston.

But The Town is probably my favorite Boston movie.

Jimmy Fallon is crushed that Fever Pitch isn't mentioned in this thread.

Some great ones mentioned.

Loved how they portrayed Mark Wahlberg's character's sisters in 'The Fighter'. Pretty sure that was Boston.

The 'Unguarded" documentary on ESPN, about former College and NBA player Chris Herron is great. He's from the Boston area & has drug abuse problems. The Celtics sign him, which should be a dream come true, but he's back home with his drug buddies.

Totally agree. My wife and I watched this movie together one night when it first went to cable and that one scene had her crying her eyes out.

Penn's reaction to finding out it was his daughter who had been killed was nothing short of bone-chillingly real.

Not technically 'set' there, but some really big events happened there.

The Social Network is the best of the bunch, but while set in Boston (for a lot of the flick), it’s not a “Boston” flick

The Departed
Good will Hunting
The Town

All awesome

But the “do you like apples?” nonsense in GWH is incredibly overrated

My submission is “Rose Petals”
