It was a 3 season show
The network made them do 4. The additional season was season 3, basically.
And yet the review for S4 are meh. The show sucks. All of the characters are completely unlikable losers.

It’s a toss up of pretentiousness or gloom.
It is an ode to back of house folks in fine dining. Both pretentiousness and gloom are prevalent in the environment, which is why alcohol, drugs and sex are so rampant.

So Season 4 was way better than 3 IMO.
But, couldn't they have ended with Carm knocking on Claire's door with that green sweater in hand. WTF

I’ve only watched the first two episodes, and I’m loving the soundtrack and visuals. The use of Tangerine Dream is great. Same track that was used in the first safecracking scene in Thief.

About the only part I like overall. Started off with a buildup and fizzled for me. My guess is maybe they will be a S5. Either way overly disappointed. Maybe others will enjoy it more.

This. Seasons 1&2 is some of my favorite TV ever. Season 3 was so bad I didn’t even finish it and likely won’t return. Should have just been a 1 or 2 season show much like Squid Game
Squid game is about to release Season 3, although I think you could probably argue that 2 and 3 are really one season, considering 1 was a fully contained story and 2 ends without resolution.

I've only watched the first two episodes as well. Here's what they are getting wrong. The restaurant industry is about more than morose, pedantic chefs struggling in a hellhole of emotions to serve a clientele whose enjoyment is being ignored. Sure there are back of house overemotional, internal struggles that are a part of it, but to leave out the recipients of that struggle is boring and unfulfilling.
Ultimately restaurants are a place a communion. To leave out the customer is to watch only half of the equation. So far it is weighted to be singularly indulgent and ultimately a bore. To much hand wringing, angst, and toil. Feeding people is putting yourself through hell so that others may enjoy. Not a glimpse of joy so far. There is a difference in taking something seriously and taking something too seriously.

Watched either all or most of season 1. Overall thought it was awful even though I wanted to like it. The biggest problem I had is that the restaurant depictions were so unrealistic. Owning and running a restaurant is nothing like what they showed.

I thought Episode 3 provided exactly this.

Binged the whole season. Every episode just focused on more character development that wasn’t needed. There was basically nothing going on with the restaurant besides computer bringing the doomsday clock and T finally cooking pasta under 3 minutes

Whew that episode of Sydney babysitting that teen was rough
And with her voice all I can hear is Misty from Big mouth too

Just realized the soundtrack pulled a bunch of songs from the She’s Having a Baby soundtrack.

The last episode could have been an all time great episode. The conversation between Camry, Syd, and then later Richie was top notch, but it was undercut by the fact that it felt like something we have already seen fifty times this season.
The show does character moments extremely well, but it doesn’t feel like they are real restaurant employees whose stressful job brings out the best and worst of them. Rather, it feels like the restaurant is just a generic setting for a series of mental breakdowns and apologies. It’s dull now. It has been dull for a while. People say that season 3 was a setup for season 4, and that’s why it felt slow at times, but I disagree. To me it feels like the showrunners got caught up in the hype of some of their best episodes the first two seasons and now they are trying to make that happen every episode. It’s not working. I genuinely don’t care about their problems anymore.

Season 4 they keep talking about Francie
I couldn’t remember if we’ve seen her at some Fak family function or what
So I looked it up and spoiled myself on who plays her. Kinda bummed . But also whatevs . 6 episodes In and this season is just spinning tires in mud
Nothing really is happening

Season 4 is just as bad as season 3.
Just got done watching it. Very depressing. Maybe two good episodes if that.
Hope the show ends.

To say that I'm sorely disappointed in s3/s4 is an understatement.
These showrunners/creators seem more interested in putting in a 'hip' soundtrack and laying on as many cameos as possible rather than delivering a cohesive and advancing story that delivers an eventual payoff to the viewer.
Look, I get that the family trauma bullshite is a character on its own in this series, but it's fricking tiresome having to deal with it as a viewer every single turn in every single episode.
everyone who watches rooted for the bear so hard to get the star, now half the damn people who have finished it don't even care if they get it or not.
ETA: one last thing, nobody gives a frick about the Faks, one of the worst storylines going on still today

This show is so annoying and exhausting
These adults are all just shot out skeletons who can’t communicate anything with anyone at any time
Like why did it take 5 years for Carmy to just say he was at Mikey’s funeral. Why was that so difficult ? It would’ve alleviated a lot of the conflict between he and Richie for all the seasons of the show
Everything and every bit of info is so difficult to extract from anyone .
