A) Superman II- Superman suddenly gains the ability to defy several laws of physics.
Flying faster than light speed, reversing time, preventing the events of the entire 3rd act from ever taking place.

or

B) Signs- water being the aliens' weakness, making us wonder why this advanced lifeform would choose to invade a planet which is 70% WATER.

or

C) The Return of the King- The fricking eagles, man.

or

D) Something else (name it).

T-Rex saves the day in JURRASIC PARK in finale.

Sickness killed aliens in WAR OF THE WORLDS.

God saves the day in RAIDERS OF THE LAST ARK.

Even though I love the books, Harry Potter has a pretty bad one in the end. It works better in the books than movie but it’s still there.

Since he sacrificed himself, his “love” protected everyone and ensured his victory at the end, pretty lame.

C) The Return of the King- The fricking eagles, man.

First, the Eye of Sauron would have spotted them from miles away and attacked them.

Second, the eagles didn't normally let people ride them.

Third, once Sauron figured out the plan to bring the ring into Mordor it would have been impossible to try again. He would have set a permanent guard at the gates of the volcano.

Hence why I hate the fricking eagles, man.

That’s not a DEM though. That’s sort of the whole point of the movie. It’s not an alien movie. It’s a movie about faith, and most specifically, loss of faith and regaining of it. And the water plays a big part of that (along with other things that would otherwise be “coincidences” or maybe even DEMs).

I’ve argued against the water gripes with this movie countless times on this board and will continue to do so. It’s not really a deus ex machina at all. It’s even hinted at throughout the movie, which also goes against the DEM narrative.

Bodies of water would not be difficult to avoid. It’s the water vapor in the air that would cause problems for the aliens.

The eagles aren’t even the worst deus ex machina in return of the king.

Aliens were definitely just a prop in that movie, their actions are simply idiotic for being able to travel to this planet and then just running around teasing people at night with stupid shite.

If I were them, I’d be worried about the creatures on the planet they’re getting into hand to hand combat with that excrete, breathe it out, and bleed it. Haha.

Ghost army is worse, but the eagles happen twice in the trilogy

Ghost Army isn’t really a DEM though, everyone knew what they would do. They went into the mountains specifically to find them, had to earn the right to use them, then brought them to the battle specifically to do their thing.

Unbeatable yes, DEM? No
