It reads much better than it plays out on the screen, which you probably know. One of the few things that was underwhelming in the films.

I like the movie, but would the raining frogs in Magnolia count?

Yeah, definitely. It's a big reason why so many don't like it.

I was fine with it, it is something that happens. Which was like literally the point of giving us the opening scene.

Any complaints with Magnolia should go to melodrama, but I do like the movie.

Especially because of all the mystery of his survival, you’d have to think no one ever sacrificed themselves for another till Potter’s mother.

I knew this thread was going to fricking suck because most posters don’t know what the frick deus ex machina is and isn’t.

This always bothered me about the book. You’d think that his mother would’ve had to cast a spell or something before death to make it work. Then maybe she could’ve passed that knowledge to Harry when he sees her in the forest. Instead, the stone doesn’t serve much of a purpose and Rowling really doesn’t explain how that charm worked. Because like you pointed out, it should work a lot more often.

Wasn't there a photo of the lightning strike that showed the time in the newspaper?

Odds of someone taking that photo 1 in 1000 but..

nah, the phot was just a pic of the clock on a clear day. Article said that it stopped when lightning struck

The plot of the movie is that Jones is trying to keep the ark out of the hands of the Nazis, not that Jones is trying to defeat the Nazis by melting their faces off.

I’m pretty sure by the last 1/3 of the movie, he’s just trying to get Marion and get TF out of there.

Okay, then that explains the clock. Not a plot hole.

Not really much of a plan from Indy to show up before an army with his grenade launcher. Even if they'd handed over Marion, odds of them getting away from 100 soldiers... not high.
