Disney has had an amazing fall off from fairly predictable profitability.

Their recent movies are so consistently disappointing M Knight Shyamalan might as well be making them.

Yes, and the Bowser gif is perfect to describe what’s going on.

I said it before Mario Bros was released, that Universal, with the collaboration of Illumination and Nintendo, has the opportunity to capitalize on its success and doubly so with Disney’s missteps. It looks like that is happening and Disney is doing everything they can to help. I do not foresee Universal going down the same path as Disney as long as the Nintendo IP is tied to whatever product they are producing.

I believe that we will look back on this year as a turning point for Disney and Universal if they both maintain the paths they are currently on.

A lot of progressive themes in this one.

quote:

Elemental draws inspiration from Sohn's youth, growing up as the son of immigrants in New York City during the 1970s, highlighting the city's distinct cultural and ethnic diversity, while the story is inspired by romantic films, like Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967), Moonstruck (1987), and Amélie (2001).

So its about diversity and romance. Definitely not enough "diversity for the sake of diversity" content out there.

No meanings, no deeper philosophy than materialism, just nihilism.

quote:

Bernie and Cinder Lumen immigrate to Element City, where they face xenophobia from other elements and struggle to find a home.

quote:

They have a daughter, Ember, and eventually establish a convenience store called the Fireplace, setting up a Blue Flame that represents their heritage and traditions and attracting many fire element patrons over time.

quote:

Afterward, Wade and Ember find out they’re able to touch without harming each other and share a romantic dance but Ember reminds herself of her duty to the Fireplace and her family’s prejudice against water elements, and leaves, upsetting Wade.

Made by progressives for progressives.

I feel like there were a lot of movies like this when I was a kid.

I also feel like it's a progressive fantasy that people hate someone for no other reason than their ethnicity. I've never seen anyone hate anyone simply because of their ethnicity, but progressives truly believe that's how this all works.

Universal has an easy path. Parents want to take their kids to the movies. Just avoid the woke crap and make decent cartoons and they will be able to print money in the years ahead.

Maybe my kids are growing out of the Pixar target but they got much more excited about the Mario and Spider-Man trailers

the only animated movies my kids have wanted to watch in the last few years are Minions: rise of gru, across the spiderverse, and super mario bros.

Minions and SMB didn't even have to try hard or be that creative at all, they just didn't have to insult their audience or shite on the source material. in that time disney lost money on turning red, strange world, lightyear, elemental, and (most likely) Little Mermaid.

i'm not hoping for disney to fail. i'm just hoping for them to pull their heads out of their butts and get back to being creative and not story telling to fringe groups (Raya was asian centric but appealed to everybody. Turning red was teenage girl and asian centric and appealed to nobody.)

Based on what? Turning Red did not receive a theatrical release in the US at all.

I just got out of it. Yes, it is clearly an interracial and classism allegory. Yes, there is an unnecessary gay character who has no lines at all, but they make the point of saying this is the sister and her girlfriend. Other than that, it wasn't terrible. The love story part was much better than the following in family footsteps plot, but it wasn't terrible. It's not ratatouille, but it's also not the good dinosaur.

Yeah saw this this morning. It was charming in some ways and bland in others. Not my favorite but it was fine for what it is.

For a studio that used to put out absolute bangers on an almost yearly basis. That is a flop 100%.
