Elemental Opening Weekend Expectations

quote:

The upcoming Pixar film Elemental is predicted to have the company’s worst opening weekend in its entire history.

quote:

Variety reports the film is tracking to have $35 million opening weekend. Box Office tracking website Box Office Pro predicted back in May the the film would gross anywhere between $28 million and $39 million in its opening weekend and go on to gross between $89 million and $155 million in its entire theatrical run at the domestic box office

quote:

The poor opening weekend means the film is likely to be a box office bomb given The Hollywood Reporter notes that most Pixar films “are believed to cost around $200 million to produce.”

Yes... It will be worse than that interplanetary movie with the handicapped dog.

They aren't even marketing it right now because they know it is going to bomb so badly.

Yep, Disney Animation Studios and Pixar were doomed the minute John Lasseter was told to hit the bricks. And he took the most talented imagineers with him.

And for what? A couple of alleged sexist comments and a completely unsubstantiated rumor that he was "handsy" with some female staff?

fricking brilliant

Pixar just doesn't make anything interesting anymore. I don't even need to skip out on what they make for wokeness or agendas, they're just not exciting movies.

Because they haven’t marketed it. I haven’t seen a single commercial for it. Had no idea it was even being released any time soon, much less this weekend. It’s apparently terrible. Pixar is very hit or miss now.

The only type of advertisement for Elemental I’ve seen is on the home screen on the Fire Stick.

Saw it during previews. Kids were not interested at all. Afterwards we just looked at each other like WTH did we just watch.

Saw the previews in theatres, both my kids turned to me and said that it looked like it was going to be terrible

I've seen it advertised a number of times, but it looks thoroughly generic and uninteresting. It's colorful, but relative to the classic Pixar stuff, this looks bad...more like some early Dreamworks production.

Wow! This is going to be a bad year for Disney. The Marvels is coming out next and cost 130 million for just the first two months of filming. Couldn't find the total marketing but it has to be over 200m. I wonder if there are enough girls and soy boys interested enough for this one to get into the black. I doubt it.

Didn’t even know they had a new film coming out, so yes I think it will underperform given my youngest child is right in the target demographic age wise and hasn’t mentioned it.

Is it just me or are movies becoming stupidly expensive to make. I mean, 200 million is more costly than many live action movies.

Same, Disney Junior is on in my house a lot so we’ve seen the ad. It just doesn’t look good: the animation, the plot, the message. It all looks and feels like an imitation of good Pixar.

‘Elemental’ is to ‘Inside Out’ as ‘Strange World’ is to ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’. They’re just imitations of things Disney has already done and not even in a smart, allusive way. They seem like lazy concepts executed in a standard animation style.

Apparently he was a pretty big perfectionist. He was also known as a 'hugger' and generally regarded as a sweet guy outside the pressures of pumping out the best modern animation films in the world over the last 30 yrs.

Yep... Totally justifies destroying your multi-billion empire....

This movie doesn’t look like any fun

Maybe my kids are growing out of the Pixar target but they got much more excited about the Mario and Spider-Man trailers
