Copied/pasted from my mistake of posting this in the FROM thread (
):
Double-episode drop. I'm not often a fan of a historical episode, but it really did a good job of answering some questions (we learn where the chair/door is and the relevance of the well the preacher was listening to. My guess is that's where the demon "lives".
We also learned that Richard Warren's "leadership" which led the founding colonists through a tough beginning was mainly his making a deal with a demon (or Satan, or whatever). We also learned that the deal kept him alive as long as he didn't leave the island's boundaries.
When Richard was making comments about being the last of his blood, I realized the point the writers made of focusing on the portrait of the kids drowning at sea and the one who was "lost". My guess is that she not only survived but that her lineage still exists, probably through the mayor's dead wife and into his son.
Giving Wyck the life preserver then letting him go was a top-notch move.
Which brings up a question: what really happened to his wife??? We now know she didn't die in childbirth (maybe he just states it that way because she somehow changed after going blind).
Another question: how will the demon/devil/island/entity react to Richard's death? Also, what exactly was written on the spooge-scroll?
I think that's more to explain why he never pursued things Gerrie as well as reinforce why his character is an eccentric and/or drunkard. If so, then he's spent his life obsessing over his cowardice and it's driven him to a dark place.
A distinct possibility. Another is that the island seems to like to play on peoples' weaknesses when it's "waking up" and what would be more cruel that the island treating an insecure try-hard as if they matter so little that even a serial killer doesn't want to bother with them? If that's the case, it would mean the entity thinks long-term by setting her up to feel worthless only to use that against her to create the ritual/bonfire/sacrifice.
That's where I'm at, and I think it may also have something to do with his mother having actually lived for a while after he was born. Perhaps that was why she was "only" struck blind when she left the island instead of being killed? She was pregnant so the island didn't want to risk killing both remaining bloods of Richard Warren?

Wyck. Especially after he told the story about the other boys in the boat going down by a kraken (the island) but he gets away.

2. Patricia. Why was she the only one the Boogeyman didn’t kill as a teenager?

3. The Mayor’s kid: We know he’s been born within the parameters of the island. Nothing bad has happened to him yet. We know his Mom was born on the island. Just seems like a possibility.

Nice point.
Also had the thought that Patricia really did lie about the Boogeyman and that he comes to get her this time around.
This show can go so many ways and I love it.

I suspect I will catch up on the show in fairly short order
Got through three episodes last night and plan on watching more tonight.
This show is really good.
Patricia is absolutely hilarious.

That would be right up this show's alley!

I thought the introduction of the mushrooms was interesting because it could be a red herring for explaining everything away — localized mass hysteria, à la ergot poisoning.
Also wondering what Mayor Loftis was doing when he was "blacking out" during his trip. (We know he moved Rosemary's car, attempted to eat a hotdog, and did some sort of damage inside the convenience store.)
Wonder if we'll see any of it in a flashback, along with Patricia and Wyck dealing with a still-alive Richard Warren?

Don’t beat yourself up. I saw your post in the From thread yesterday and it made me check this show out last night. 4 episodes in and I’m highly enjoying it.
Thanks for the mispost!

The antler headpiece and all of the stick arrangements made me immediately think of season 1 of True Detective.
I knew I recognized those stick figures from somewhere!
True Detective had them because real witches makes those. They have many meanings but they're basically their calling card.
Widow's Bay is the best show I've seen in years. Excellent, acting, humor, suspense, and cinematography!
It's got the best elements of Twin Peaks and True Detective season 1.

So wife and i watched the historical episode on wednesday and i was like well this is cool but i didn't want to wait to watch another to have the present day plot move forward. Last night we realized we got two episodes.
Rhys definitely was making a deal with someone on the toilet...could be a red herring and him praying to God, could be the deal he made while on mushrooms.

Finally getting a chance to catch up reading the thread. This cracked me up:
It’s weird that I never see y’all around the house, since we are apparently all married to the same exact woman.
quote:
The hag is doing the Ring style crawl across the floor and I’m gasping and cringing. My wife looks up from her phone
Does everyone's wife do this? Why can't they just put the damn phone down for 30 minutes to an hour? Why is it so hard for them to disconnect?
quote:
Even worse is the delay between me telling her to watch or look at something and when she actually looks up. Also a major issue in the car when we’ve inevitably passed whatever I was pointing out by the time she actually looks up.

The pastor was Mac's dad from It's Always Sunny, I'm pretty sure.

Sarah Warren was the blonde hottie on Glow.

I meant the flashback pastor, but I was wrong.
It was the guy that played a peeping Tom on Boston Legal.

Obviously it has to sustain over multiple seasons, but this is the first show since last season of Severance that I genuinely get excited about watching.
