Only white people can play green people. Just as our Founding Fathers intended.

I watched it a few days ago. I didn't mind the first one, I sort of just rolled with it as a standalone movie.
But this one shits on the tin man, the Wizard, but especially Dorothy. Not sure why they went that way, but whatever.
What I don't like about this movie is that the messaging was weak as hell. The 1939 movie had such a great message, you don't need the wizard, you already have courage, intelligence, etc.
Oh and no joke, there was a group of 3 blue hairs blubbering loudly during the Elpheba "death" scene. One actually kept screaming, "Noooooo!" like it was some grand surprise.

Wicked is a re-imagining of the character as being misunderstood,
Which doesn’t work at all for me. Some villains just need to be 100% evil.

I like the musical but I hate hate hate the Broadway “happy” ending that prevents Elphaba from truly realizing the consequences of casting spells she doesn’t understand. Heaven forbid we kill her off and align with the Baum and Maguire novels and 1939 film.

Agreed. There are stories for a Magneto and there are stories for a Xenomorph. Trying to re-write a Xenomorph into a sympathetic figure after the fact completely fricks everything else (see also: retcon).

I thought it was good. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the first one also.

Same here. Saw it an enjoyed both of them.

Unfortunately I saw it yesterday. The message was pretty loud and clear to anyone paying attention. Terrible movie. Glad I missed the first one.

I would never watch the movies, not my cup of tea. These two have such a creepy vibe together. I don't know which one of these anorexics is the abductor and which is the abductee.

When Chenowith and Menzel sing at the end of 1 on screen it reminds you how awful replacements or imitations the two new girls are.

The whole premise of Wicked is stupid, it’s the back story on a character from a dream.
She’s the wicked witch because she wants to put Dorothy’s dog down because he bit her. Not because she was “misunderstood” because she had green skin

I have to disagree here. While the movies aren't perfect, the singing is Broadway caliber. Cynthia Erivo is a musical theater veteran (she's even won a Tony award) and Ariana Grande worked hard to train her voice, and you can tell. I'd say AG is the best part of the first movie. She acts well and nails the physical comedy aspects of the role.
I did enjoy the first film more. It is a near perfect adaptation of the first act of the play. I liked For Good, but not as much. I wasn't impressed by the two new songs, but I understand why they felt the need to add them. The melting scene hits harder on screen than on stage because you can see their faces and you know what's about to happen even though Elphaba tells Glinda it's going to be ok.

Didn't she have a melt-down over some fan changing a movie poster? Like it was some kind of personal attack?

Part one was not that bad, but it's for sure not the best film I've ever seen.
And as someone has already mentioned, there is something weird with two main actresses. I've seen some videos online, and it's hard to explain whether it's part of PR campaign, or not

If you've read the book all this shite is based on, it tracks. Nothing but poorly veiled sexual innuendo all over that thing. Don't ask. Was trying to impress someone when it came out.

Didn't care for it and thought it has been WAY overhyped.

Just watched the 2nd part last night. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I've never seen the Broadway productions, so viewing this I was completely fresh. The singing does get a bit old at some points. I don't mind musicals per se, but a new song every 5 minutes does leave me wanting to bang my head on the wall. I will say they picked some great actresses for the roles. Ariana and Cynthia have some absolutely amazing voices, and they blend together so well. In real life they are some absolute weirdos, but it worked for the movie, I guess.
Some things I didn't like: I didn't like Nafessa's death just being completely glossed over like a giant joke. I know they didn't have the best relationship, but she literally started playful light saber fighting 5 feet away from her corpse. Speaking of, they didn't even show the iconic shot of her legs sticking out from the house.
The entire "death" scene. They did an entire song about how she was about to die and we see Elphaba prepare buckets of water to give Dorothy. The problem is we already know water doesn't harm her, that's something the stupid town people made up. So it was always obvious that she was faking her death. But somehow Glinda couldn't figure that out, nor could all the audience members who started crying.
Why did Fiyero aka Scarecrow go along with Dorothy and the crew in this? He wasn't like Tinman or Lion. He knew the Wizard was a fake. He knew Elphaba was not evil, and he was in love with her. Yet we're supposed to believe he gleefully went along with their plans to see the wizard and then kill the witch? Perhaps the Scarecrow spell really did make him lose his brain. If that's the case, he surely did have a brain when he went to find Elphaba.
Bach aka Tinman was a giant idiot. He knew Elphaba from school, yet he went along with everything blaming her for everything.
Then there's the Lion. She was shown freeing him from the cage in the first movie. Yet now he hates her as well? Not having courage isn't supposed to make you stupid.
