Who Shot JR. It's up there with the final episode of MASH in most anticipated/watched shows ever.
Everyone remembers a good villain. And JR was a damn good villian. One of the GOATs for TV.
I for some reason started watching it again in IMDBTV. It's kinda hilarious to look back--it's barely above a daytime soap when it comes to acting...but Larry Hagman played JR with a masterful subtlety. Take him away, and that show isn't a landmark.
If you do go back and watch it...pay attention to how much time the spend filming them coming/going entering/exiting their cars. It'd be a good drinking game.
There were at least two "Who Shot JR" songs on the radio...that's back when people wrong songs like "Pacman Fever).
Yes it was quite the media event back in the day. Friday nights were the GOAT. Incredible Hulk, Dukes of Hazzard, and Dallas trifecta on CBS.
Also, Victoria Principal had wonderful jubblies. Nudes on reddit.
Also, also, losing the actor who played Jock Ewing early on hurt the show...he had a pretty good presence.

It eventually became the JR and Sue Ellen Show. There were obviously other storylines, but most of them lead back to JR and/or Sue Ellen. Linda Gray did a phenomenal job with that role.

Which is interesting as the first few shows seem to be dominated by Pam/Bobby.
Also, don't forget the controversy of Bobby dying off, only to be brought back after an entire season, which had to be written off as Pam's dream.

Teenaged me rubbed it raw over Lucy Tilton. I thought she was beautiful.

I was a child when Dallas aired. But I have watched it as an adult. I was surprised at how much I liked it. All the business intrigues/deals definitely was interesting enough to keep a man's attention to the show.
Dynasty is just a show filled with super attractive people. So was Melrose Place. That's what makes those shows watchable.

Better theme song by a mile. In fact I have no memory of Dynasty's theme song.

Seems like by the late 80’s everyone had moved on from Dallas. I don’t remember watching it in high school, or remember anyone really talking about it. Pretty amazing the main cast stick around that long though - Havman, Gray, Duffy, and Principal. I think the mom stuck around until the next to last season.

after about 7 seasons Dallas changed writers and THAT is when it started to go down.
The Callie storyline was a real joke. Barbara Eden, April, Michelle, Jamie, really? Had some dumbass storylines. The whole kidnapping thing?
You know, Lee Van Cleef might could have pulled off being a Jock replacement. He had that same roughness
