Can't really say what my instincts would have me do but my plan would be to yell "CAR!" as I'm getting the dog. The person has a chance of understanding the situation whereas the dog doesn't. I guess it goes back to the perceived innocence of an animal that was touched on earlier.

Seriously, it depends on the reason and the manner of death with an animal.
This

Watching a guy take 5 minutes to slowly decapitiate a wolf in The Grey was gruesome but i didnt feel bad for the wolf. It was just graphic

hypothetical.

you getting your dog out the way or the stranger?

just so you know, I have 2 dogs that i love and would do just about anything for. my main objective would not be to save my dog first.

I think saving a mans life would be more important. Like someone said, its hard to say what you would actually do. But years down the road I would imagine you would feel better about yourself if you saved the man. That might be something you ever get over if you watch a man die and know you did nothing to help. Stranger or not.

I yell ,"CAR!" and jump out of the way. You can get hurt standing in front of oncoming cars. I know. My ex girlfriend ran me over with one.

I can't stand to think about any animals dying in a movie. I won't even watch the latest King Kong remake because I know what happens in the end and I hate it. Old Yeller nearly broke my heart.

For me it is a combination of the above and the fact that the animals are unable to protect themselves from most of the harm that befalls them. Humans have the cognitive ability to choose to do something dangerous while animals don't and are typically drug into the dangerous situation.

Worst scene ever for me was watching the horse slowly sink into the swamp in The Neverending Story.

Here's another hypothetical to disprove Tulane's trolling.

You have an anonymous person standing in front of you as well as your dog. You have to kill one or the other or they both die.

I think everyone shoots the dog, right?

I had a GF who had a male poodle that she dressed in sweaters in the winter and tee shirts in the summer. When she had him groomed, they put bows and ribbons on him. I used to take them off of him when she'd leave the room. She took away all of his dignity. I think he would have asked for a bullet if he could have talked.

Well obviously not a well trained hunting dog, those are hard to replace.

Something like a Chihuahua or a Dachshund. You know, something useless.

Same here. I can't stand it. If something has to happen to the animal in the story, like they won't be in it for the rest of the movie, let them get out of the house and run away or something.

When they kill off the animal, it ticks me off. The movie right there loses a bunch of good points, to me.

I really want to see War Horse but just on what I said, it's in the war, it's a beloved horse, Spielberg directs it..... yeah. Don't know if I'll check that one out.

The I am Legend thing with his dog ticked me off. It could've gone a different way.

Any sort of suffering in a movie is difficult to watch for me. Even something as small as that scene in King Kong when that guy gets eaten by those giant worms. Painful to watch.
