Whiplash - 10th Anniversary Theatrical Re-Release Sep 20

The best movie in recent memory and the rightful winner of the 2015 Best Picture is getting another theatrical run to celebrate its 10th anniversary. It’s my personal GOAT and I’ve regretted not seeing it in theaters in 2014. I’ll be at the first showing to rectify that.
Oh, and Birdman..

Couldn’t agree more.
But I think too few people give Miles Teller credit for having a face that was begging to be emotionally abused for 2 hours. You can’t teach that in acting school.

I'd say top 15 movie of all time for me and by far and away probably the best movie of the past decade. That movie is perfect.
I don't have a list or anything, but I'd almost be tempted to have it as my top 10 movie of all time. Definitely top 15 though. And yes JK Simmons performance was the best in years too.

Top 2-3 misunderstood ending in cinema history

It feels like a redemption ending, but the director said that the character is in a really bad place. His career is on the up and up, but he's going to struggle more with developing any personal relationships and become more obsessed with perfection.
I think that the ending is open for interpretation, so there is neither is a wrong answer, but the director certainly has a negative post-film vision of Miles's character.

My only complaint about the film is that Miles' character becomes a bit too stupid up to the car crash.

Interstellar is re-releasing in 70mm IMAX in December for its 10th anniversary.

Some people interpret it as a happy ending. It isn’t (at least to the filmmaker and actors)
He’s lost to obsession. His father sees this. His abuser wins.
The director has said he thinks Andrew will achieve greatness but be dead by 30

Such a great scene. He encompasses every band director at the end of his rope, taken to the nth degree.

Incredibly great performance by Simmons, but I have zero interest in watching this movie again. Once is enough.

In my all time top 5. I fricking love this movie.

That's exactly how I interpreted it and my wife interpreted it. His dad's face says it all. He achieved greatness, or will achieve greatness, but at the ultimate price of losing himself.

I’m caught somewhere in the middle. I don’t think you can completely discount what Andrew and Fletcher think they accomplished, even if they are both narcissistic assholes. They both got exactly what they wanted and lost everything to achieve it.
The conversation in the jazz club seems to question whether or not his goal of becoming “one of the greats” is even obtainable. Fletcher explains that jazz is dying today because it is essentially coffee shop background music. Andrew may be able to imitate the technical prowess of someone like Parker because of Fletcher’s abuse, but he will likely never be able to achieve the cultural impact Parker had on not just jazz, but music in general.
So is becoming the greatest jazz drummer in 2015 really worth losing yourself and eventually your life?
