*SPOILERS*
While it appears that Andrew upstages Fletcher after he appears to be sabotaged, Fletcher comes out as the winner because of his control over Andrew. You can see Andrew’s dad’s devastating reaction while he’s performing.
ETA: at least I think that’s what he means. The ending, incredible as it is, could be seen as happy but it isn’t.

But wasn't that essentially his goal? So you could argue that it's a win (i.e. happy ending) for him, no?
