Field of Dreams, at least if you’re not gay.

Field of Dreams is a pretty saccharine movie, which preys upon dudes who miss their dads. A League of Their Own has comedy mixed with drama quite nicely. A League of Their Own is a better movie, IMO.

FOD is the more substantive, literature-worthy movie by a mile (Shoeless Joe by Kinsella absolutely qualifies as YA literature).

couldn't find a lefthander to play him

I would like Taylor Sheridan to do a FOD reboot. His guy is in it, move it to Wyoming, make the wife slutty

You're comparing a metaphysical drama to a comedy.

prefer A League of Their Own, mainly because of what I would argue is Tom Hanks' greatest performance.

You might be right. That's a really good rewatch to remember just how insanely good Tom Hanks was on screen back in his prime. He had everything, dramatic chops, comedic chops, charisma, screen presence, he was so fun to watch and could pull off anything

Dreams is better, but League is more rewatchable

I think I actually agree with that. People shite on ALoTO but it is actually very good. And FoD is awesome obviously, but it’s also slow and a bit “boring” at times (in terms of rewatchability).

I’d assume most guys who had their dad in their lives would easily choose FoD though. But League is much better than people generally give it credit for.

Field of dreams is a better movie but a league of their own is an easier occasional watch, when it’s on, I’ll just watch it as a background movie

the best baseball movies of all time are long gone and major league, in that order. all others are just pretenders.

Another movie date story...I was in college and took a girl to go see Field of Dreams on our first date. Her dad died 6 months earlier and we had no idea about the end of the movie. Major League was released about a week or so earlier. If I'd taken her to see that instead, the night probably would have ended differently.

This thread makes me think a league of their own is wildly underrated.

Comedy doesn’t age well. A league of their own is just as funny and watchable some 30 years later.

And Marla’s Hooch’s father standing up for Marla and getting her on the train is a wildly good few minutes of film. this movie is filled with tear jerkers.

The women win easily! Great movie! "There's No Crying in Baseball" One of the all-time great quotes!
