It's a very polarizing movie. It's got a lot of cap cheese in it, so if you like that you will love the movie, if not you tend to hate it.

I liked it a lot.

I agree. I wasn't high on it at first, but I liked it a lot more after Winter Soldier.

I liked it after first viewing. Liked it more after Winter Soldier and Civil War.
Not sure how i'd rank it though, or any of the Marvel films. I enjoy all of them.

I agree that Red Skull needs to show up again, and so does Task Master. Agents of Shield have pretty much killed all of Hydra to the point that they don't really exist much anymore, although a Red Skull return could change that.

Man, I'll go against the tide, too. I think it is a terrific film and one of the best things Marvel has ever done. It's like a genre film within a genre film.

Exactly.

Its extremely well done and captures the time period pretty well.

Near, but not at, the bottom, where Winter Soldier is at or near the top.

It's one of the few Marvel movies I didn't watch in theaters, as I originally had little interest in seeing it. I was very surprised at how much I liked it though when I finally got around to watching it on DVD. Out of the origin films, I'd place it behind Iron Man.

The evolution of Cap throughout the MCU has been extraordinary IMO. His story has been the most intriguing of all the heroes.

I forget how many movies they have made.

better than Thor 2 (don't remember anything abut that one), Ironman 2 & 3, Dr. Strange, 2nd Avengers

on a par with Thor 1

rest I can rmember I liked better

guess that puts it around the top of the lower 3rd

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. It came out when most comic book movies had to change the characters to make them modern and edgy, Cap stayed true to his character and his comics.

There is so many amazing scenes in that movie that doesn't include any real action because the movie was so much more than merely an action flick (unlike most comic book movies). The grenade scene is my absolute favorite in the MCU. Him talking with the doctor for the first time about why he wants to join the army and serve.

It is significantly underrated. It is a top 5 movie for me, and I love the MCU and comic book movies in general.

Yep. It had heart and was a great vehicle for transitioning to the modern day. The best comic book film of the Marvel Universe IMO. I think The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy are the best movies in general- with Ant-Man bringing up the rear. Can't wait for GOTG 2, Black Panther, and Ant-Man 2.

I don't get the hate. The worst thing about it is the awful Avengers tie-in at the end. It's nowhere close to Iron Man 2, Thor 1 and 2, and Incredible Hulk status.

I don't get the love for TWS. Won't rehash my arguments elsewhere but TWS is just a poor villain.

Just got done rewatching it on broadcast TV and it doesn't sway my opinion. The final helicarrier battle/crash was awful CGI. (Unsolicited by me my wife said to me during this sequence, "That looks pretty fake.") I've always felt if TWS was a DC product it would get ravaged on this board.

It also contains one of the old tried and true standards of Hollywood tropes "Establish character/villain as elite marksman/killer...up until he is aiming at the hero then can't hit the broadside of a barn."

Just have never understood the unbridled adoration for it.

It's definitely a different style of movie; I liked it ok.

I could see Red Skull making a return. Thanos is losing his tools- Loki is gone out on his own; Ronin killed his underling apparently, before also getting offed. If Red Skull survived his transit, he might be a useful player to engage Earth with.

I love First Avenger. But I am a sucker for that kind of nostalgia (really like The Rocketeer [Johnston as well]).

The Cap series is absolutely the best in the MCU (including Avengers).

You're crazy man

Its not bad, but its bottom half. The movie was simply to introduce the character before the Avengers.

Winter Soldier and Civil War were far better

Marvel Movie Series?

It's probably a Top 5 Comic book film all time.

Much like Superman 78, and they are very similar heroes anyways, the movie is embedded in the character itself. It isn't ashamed of the source material, and celebrates Cap not only as a hero, but as a person. To do that successfully, while keeping the core of the character intact, is rare in comic book films.

Johnston was also maybe the perfect director that kind of film. It shows that Feige probably rewatched Rocketeer and said "Yep." They expertly balanced the tone, the setting and period, the characters, and the comic book.

It also has an extremely underrated score, and probably the best score of all Marvel films. Fact.

I really liked it but it probably wouldn't be in my top 5.
