One of my least favorites. Very boring. But. The winter soldier is my favorite marvel movie. So they rebounded very nicely.

I have a love-hate for that part. It felt tacked on, but I'm glad that they didn't sacrifice half of the WWII portion of the film for the "man out of time" story.

Marvel Movie Series?

It's probably a Top 5 Comic book film all time.

Much like Superman 78, and they are very similar heroes anyways, the movie is embedded in the character itself. It isn't ashamed of the source material, and celebrates Cap not only as a hero, but as a person. To do that successfully, while keeping the core of the character intact, is rare in comic book films.

Johnston was also maybe the perfect director that kind of film. It shows that Feige probably rewatched Rocketeer and said "Yep." They expertly balanced the tone, the setting and period, the characters, and the comic book.

It also has an extremely underrated score, and probably the best score of all Marvel films. Fact.

So what about the fight between Cap and GSP? Did that look fake?
What about when Cap kicks 12 guys arse in an elevator? Did that look fake?
What about when Cap fights TWS in the street. Did that look fake?

What was great about this movie was the action. It is the reason why Cap is the most popular Marvel character right now, not Iron Man. Every kid has a Cap shirt. Walk around Disney World and you'll see 95% of the people wearing super hero clothes being Captain America, not Iron Man, not Superman, not Batman, not Spider-Man, not Hulk.
TWS made Cap a badass, in a good way, and he is loved by everyone, much like how Superman used to be until they recently where they have tried their best to ruin that persona that was built over the last 50 years that made him so great and loved.

I've always felt if TWS was a DC product it would get ravaged on this board

You couldn't be more wrong. Had the Superman movies been more like Captain America, instead of the Dark Knight, we'd all be praising DC's Superman. Instead we scoff and bitch about it.

Not sure exactly where I'd rank it, but it's a top 5 for me.

I see this mentioned a lot on here and I couldn't disagree more. I think there's a reason you see RDJ shoehorned into so many Marvel films, as opposed to Cap. Maybe he is with comic fans, but Evans doesn't move the needle with general audiences the way RDJ does.

Pretty low. I thought it was pretty bad overall. The first half of him turning into CA was cool, but then the Red Skull dude was just awful IMO. I borderline hated it the first time I saw it, but I eased back on that a little bit since then. But I still think it's one of their weaker movies.

Winter Soldier is one of their best though. That movie was badass.

One thing we know for sure, this movie is extremely polarizing.

You either loved it or you hated it .

I need to watch Winter Soldier again soon, its been awhile.

what you're saying contradicts reality. Seriously pay attention to kids, and even adults wearing super hero shirts. It's 95% Cap. Why is that? That is the general audience, not the less than 1% of the population that are comic book fans.

When you look at merchandise sales, it will always be Spiderman, Batman, and Superman at the top. After that there's a big drop off, but next on the list is Captain America, not Iron Man, not Hulk.

I agree he's popular, but your kids example could just be where you live. I work down the street from Disney, I'm there a lot (I have a 10yr old). I see kids wearing all the superheroes - Hulk, Cap, IM, Supes, etc.

I'd say RDJ is more popular because, well, he's Robert Downey Jr. But Captain America is clearly the more popular character than Iron Man, and I don't think it's remotely up for debate. The only Marvel character even in the same universe is Spider-Man (and maybe the Hulk), and Spidey has now only been in one MCU film.

What makes the film great is they don't try and make Cap edgy, they lean into his earnestness and genuinely heroic values. He's an honest to God patriot. He believes in the goodness of people.

This is one of the main reason I loved it.

His character was written phenomenally well and Evans did a great job on top of the writing.

Spider-Man is in a universe by himself.
Spider-Man merchandise globally, last year, made almost twice as much as Batman and all of the Avengers combined. $1.3B in merchandise in 2016 for Pete.

It was pretty terrible

But winter soldier is top tier

Civil war wasnt that good. Wish they had stuck with a single character story for CA in his third film. Like WS
