I was 9, watching Alien by myself because my stepfather thought it would be ok. (Jesus Christ what was he thinking?). Nobody warned me what was coming, which made it much more terrifying and unforgettable.

The scene hits you like a fricking sledgehammer. Just perfectly executed. Iconic, changed sci-fi/horror movies forever.

Spinoff of my mention of the Cartwright sisters in the Lost in Space thread?

First time I saw Alien I was in grad school ... the guys laughed, the girls screamed. Same for The Exorcist when Linda Blair's head spun around.

Veronica Cartwright overplayed the scream.

When I was a kid I had a shirt with a rubber chest buster coming out of the middle. It was a hand me down but it made a good Halloween costume one year. It was like this but I think it was white. CSB

I want to say i read that the cast didn't know it was going to happen. So those reactions are real.

We used to marathon movies that were old when a reboot would come out (alien, predator, Indiana Jones) with my dad. Hed go rent the entire series and we’d all sit down and watch them on a weekend or something. Well when it came time to watch the Alien series for whatever reason my dad decided he’d rather garden so it was 9 year old jlovel7 and 6 year old jlovel7s brother watching all 4 Alliens by ourselves. I’ve never been more terrified

I'm pretty sure I saw aliens before I saw alien.

I saw Spaceballs first, but thankfully it didn't ruin the scene for me when I eventually saw Alien years later because I didn't even know what it was from.

Between the chestburster, the air duct surprise motherfricker, and Ash spewing milk everywhere during his malfunction, there were some legitimate scares in this one.

They knew it was coming, but didn't know how elaborate it was and the amount of blood that would be squirted everywhere. They're reactiont to getting sprayed was legit.

Correct. Very, very little information on the movie leaked out during production and before it arrived in theaters.

I was too young, but my family said the entire theater about passed out during that scene as no one knew it was coming.

And, as you said, neither did the cast for the most part.

I have a warped sense of humor but everytime I see a pregnant woman I think of this movie scene.

I've even made the joke that an alien is going to pop out of there at any time and they just look at me like WTF is wrong with you man?

Not knowing makes it all the more frightening.

It is a unique type of horror that was original with no real predecessor at that time.

Lots of people lost their popcorn on the backside of their seats.

Preparing yourself for what is about to happen allows your body to absorb the scene. Those just chillaxing in the theatee at that time eating, drinking, kissing, etc... they definitely lost their shite quick.

I had it spoiled for me. I saw it for the first time in a Video Bar. Not many people remember those.

I'll be honest, the fist one I saw was in Spaceballs. I never saw the Alien version until I was an adult.
