I can't believe they screwed this up. I mean, I can because I watched the first season and barely made it through, but still. The story was right there on a silver platter.

Oh well, I bet we will get an awesome AI adaptation in the next decade.

Are straight writers more expensive something? Blaming budget for all the gayness. Smart.

:raiseshand:

I tired, but couldn't make it through S1. It was awful.

As a big Wheel of Time book fan, can someone please reassure me that we will eventually get a reboot? Within 25-30 years?

Maybe Apple can pick up the rights to the IP?

See Rings of Power, The Witcher, She Hulk, Doctor Who and pretty much any 'creatives' who think the older stuff needs to be updated for THE MODERN AUDIENCE.

And looking up who this Rafe cat even is, anyone shocked that he's in a 'committed relationship' with one of the (male) actors on WoT?

Because of course he is.

what happens is arrogance mixed with fandom

I think the showrunner was a fan.

He just also thought he was better at writing than Jordan

I guess the Rafe Judkins fanbase wasn't enough to carry the show.

It reminds me of the Silver Surfer

People are fans of the Silver Surfer, not the concept or "mantle" of the Silver Surfer

Why intentionally refuse to give them the character they are a fan of, instead of a completely different character. . .and then blame the fanbase for noticing?

Same shite in WoT:

Dragon Reborn could be female. . .which narratively is just batshit stupid. . .How would that even be remarkable? How would a aes sedai patch the taint?

Perrin being married

Mat being a brooding dickhead, long before the dagger

just too fricking much to list

But the nightmare is over

Let's see if they have the guts to axe Rings of Power. There's absolutely no way the viewership it gets could ever justify the expense, but oh boy cancelling it would be humiliating.

Be that as it may, 5 seasons of RoP have been bought and paid for, and will be made. For better or worse.

The first season of this show sucked, but what?

Mat got the dagger in the second episode, and Mat is an insufferable, brooding dick throughout the entirety of the book series, including before he gets the dagger.

What in the actual frick? Rakish, ladies man Mat? I am talking about Mat, not Perrin.

Here is from the wiki:

quote:

Mat is often described as lazy, immature, tactless, roguish, and brazen. Though he matures somewhat over the course of the story, Mat's core personality remains largely intact throughout his trials and challenges.

quote:

He enjoys gambling and drinking, as well as pursuing women, though he is careful never to pursue one who isn't open to his attentions. This love of gambling extends to a love of tactics, as Mat views battles as being the ultimate gamble. He is also pragmatic and generally shirks possessions or clothing that is not practical or useful.

You spew a bunch of BS on these boards to try and stir up conflict, but this takes the cake. Mat is a lighthearted prankster before the knife, then brooding for the knife period, then back to the prankster who becomes a badass and hero despite himself, and is always loyal to his friends and family.

He's also easily one of top 2-3 most popular characters in the series across the entirety of the fanbase, and it's not remotely close. Your take that he's insufferable in the books is idiotic.

Not surprised at all. In 3 seasons, there was 1 really good episode and that's it. The one about how the Aiel became to be was just like how I imagined when reading the book.

Even though the 3rd season was better; that's not saying much given how bad the first two seasons were. I'm still amazed that they chose a rookie showrunner to lead the production. Supposedly he read the books but he must not have been a real fan like Peter Jackson was with LOTR.

It will be interesting if the rights revert back to Jordan's widow anytime soon. I could definitely see her letting Sanderson and Dragonsteel take control. Not that there would be another adaptation anytime soon unless it went the animated route. But combine that with his Cosmere properties and gives Sanderson even more leverage to get things done like he wants.

But for the potential new entries, you get a very short leash, and if that doesn't work out, I think it gets tossed to the curb forevermore.
Also, Amazon owns the rights to this property and rights are not easily given up.

shite, I think SyFy still owns Flash Gordon, which is probably why we haven't seen another shitty reboot of that.

Huh? They got like 10 million an episode in season one. Prior to Rings of Power is was the most expensive Amazon show ever. Season one of Game of Thrones cost 7 million an episode. The funding wasn't the issue.

See Rings of Power, The Witcher, She Hulk, Doctor Who and pretty much any 'creatives' who think the older stuff needs to be updated for THE MODERN AUDIENCE.

Different issues here.

Rings of Power is skating on appendix notes; there's a ton of leeway for interpretation there. And the producers were not allowed to use Silmarillion references, so they had to get creative.

Wheel of Time, they had the actual books, simply had to adapt for visual media. And no need to condense for a movie, they had it lined up for an uncensored premium format series (basically a miniseries). Meaning you could have made this 8-10 hrs per season, at movie quality, ala Game of Thrones.

Not making excuses for the other works, but this should have been a lot easier to do.

One of the reasons my opinion of AI in writing and production is shifting.

It will remove these talentless hacks and their want to change stories and narratives to fit their views, rather than sticking to the writings of more competent authors.

AI has its place in society, but it needs to stay far away from movies, TV shows, books, etc.
