I saw multiple families bring children to see Deadpool in theatres...I can only assume that they thought a marvel comic book movie couldn’t be that bad to warrant an R and was just going to be violent...I can only imagine the regret as soon as the sex scene was started

We used to have movie night as a family and each of my siblings took turns picking out which movie we rented from Blockbuster.
Younger sister picked Cruel Intentions. We didn’t make it 10 min before my dad was cancelling movie night. Poor sister didn’t get a movie pick for a few weeks after that.

Kate Winslet showed those boobies, and I was no longer a boy. Is that when you decided you identified with the other gender?
Yes, I liked them so much I decided to get some of my own

I was in college at the time but still super cringey:
At my aunt's house for thanksgiving and we go to blockbuster to rent a movie for the family to watch. I see Training Day but didn't know much about it other than it was a police drama, had Denzel, and won Oscars. So I suggest it.
VERY awkward evening on the couch.

Grandmother took me and my brother to Porky's. She about had a heart attack.
Porky's - My older brother and his wife talked my mom into going and taking me (13 yrs old). I laughed my arse off and my brother got in so much trouble. My father was out of town that weekend and Mom told him what happened. He ending up to go see it the next weekend as he thought Mom overreacted. He came home laughing and then she got pissed at him. Me and him would laugh about that for years.

Sheeeeesh, back in the 50s and early 60s parents just didn't take their kids to see ... hell, I'm not even sure there were any cringiest movies back then. I can't think of any. I mean those were the drive-in days and they were great. But my parents and grandparents were old school ... it was Disney all the way.

Not at the theater, but i remember being around 5-6 at my Grandmothers house with a few of my cousins and we watched Revenge of the Nerds.
It was right then that I discovered my love for pie
We've got bush!!!

There were a couple of "adult" movies my dad wanted me to see as a kid. 2001 and The Godfather. I saw my share of kid movies and westerns and monster movies, but those were the two that he wanted me exposed to.

Most of the movie was pretty tame, but The Naked Gun had one REALLY awkward scene that was uncomfortable for everyone. Frank Drebin and the male statue scene had my parents ready to bolt.

That's a Top 5 funny scene of all time for me, which was shortly followed by this:
"Drebin, I don't want any more trouble like you had last year on the southside. Understand? That's my policy."
"Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy."
"That was a Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar, you moron!"

I'll be 50 this year, wow I'm getting old.
Luckily for me, I have some older brothers, and back in the 70's the world was considered a lot safer place- as long as we went in a group, we could be dropped off together and see whatever we could get into. And some theaters had up to 4 screens, so you had a chance at variety...
Have no idea what we got tickets to, but I saw a LOT of Burt Reynolds films, so I learned "motherfricker" as part of my vocab early on.

My dad went with me so I could see Madonna: Truth or Dare. That bottle bj scene was super uncomfortable.
My dad is one helluva guy, sitting through that whole show just bc his queer arse son likes Madonna.

My Dad didn't think anything about taking me to any movie even though he caught crap from my Mom now and again. Lots of TandA movies and such but what sticks out to me - and the only time I remember HIM knowing he might have made a mistake - was when he took 9 year old me to The Exorsit. That movie freaked me the Hell out. And did my Dad decide we needed to get up and leave? Nope. He just kept sending me for more candy and popcorn. It was pretty cringeworthy. Ahhh the 70’s.

Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. I think my parents had seen it as a play first, likely without the nudity.
