What prevents movies and/or series being made from Forgotten Realms properties?

Animated or live?
I mean a wealth of great stories and a huge established fanbase.
Does TSR just hate money?

I have no idea what you’re talking about so that might be why.

FR or Dragonlance animated movies would be awesome, even direct to video.

Perhaps production companies feel it's too niche of a market, particularly for the kind of budget the film's would require to make them look halfway decent rather than like total fricking schlock.

One of my cousins was big into that world. Played ad&d with him and my brother, he taught us about it. Actually really fun. Funny you mention it, as I reread the stories of Drizzt a bit ago, and was wondering the same.
Like ppl have said. Too niche, ppl don't know the worlds

It’s because Hollywood doesn’t have faith in the property.
For the record, I think they are wrong. I think if you make a quality story with good production value, people with like it. But they think D&D is a non-starter for a franchise with deep nerd stigma.
Thus, all we ever get from the D&D property is schlock due to budget.
You can’t get a silk purse from a sow’s ear. You have to spend money to get a quality film. No one wants to front the money.
High-quality fantasy is hot right now, though, it’s not as risky as some people think.

Licensing.
The bigger question: Why has there never been an Elric feature, animated or otherwise? Moorcock is getting pretty old - I assume his estate will definitely try to monetize, but he wanted to make a movie years ago - and he would make sure it retained the integrity.
Elric's world is a better setting for a 21st Century audience than Forgotten Realms (IMHO).

D&D has never really transferred well to the screen. It’s pretty rich material but for some reason falls flat. LOTR is as close as we’ll get.

It's a sad story...
--Wizards of the Coast bought TSR in 1997, and dropped the name off products starting with 3rd edition in 2000, so we can't blame a non-existent company for something that's not happening over 20 years later.
--WotC became a Hasbro subsidiary in 1999, and if Hasbro dictates something to WotC from on high, that's just the way business goes.
--Due to those Hasbro dictates, WotC shuttered the Forgotten Realms fiction line, and possibly D&D fiction as well. The last product offered is over a year old now (Salvatore's Hero). You can dig around on the interwebz for commentary by authors Evans, Greenwood and Salvatore and draw your own conclusions, but no one is expecting new fiction any time soon (if ever).
Speaking of Ed Greenwood, he does offer some advice on how to get a new Forgotten Realms novel published.

Would be great to see Matt Mercers Vox Machina Campaign adapted to an animated series. You can have the voice actors play their own parts..thats a fricking win right there.

Just take those drizzt stories and give them a darker, edgier feel while not advertising it as being related to d&d at all and it would probably do pretty decent. Might take a big name director that has been a fan to give it a little extra hype.

Dragonlance would be better. Forgotten Realms characters got very out of hand. Like Silver Age DC characters.

Especially the Twins series.

Agree. With the success of TLotR movies and now superhero movies, a big money production of a D&D story would kill.

I don't know, but they need to make another Baldur's Gate game.
