My wife and I were watching some stuff and I had a thought about how a person from the early part of the 20th century where movies were so basic with primitive special effect that were not realistic would react to the ways movies and TV shows are filmed.

Here's the questions..

What Film/TV would you show the to "WOW" them?

What Film/TV Would shock them?

What Film/TV would leave the hopeful of the future?

What film/Tv would leave them depressed about the future?

25 or so years old, but I'd imagine seeing dinosaurs for the first time is still up there.

Jurassic Park nailed it.

I would show the person from 1920 The Godfather II. It won’t be too shocking because half the movie is set in his time, and the other half is 50 years in his future.

That way you slow-walk the explosion of technology to him as you show him the mid-point between his time and yours. And it’s a great movie. Win/win.

I have a feeling some hardcore porn would really “wow” some people living during prohibition.

Star Wars- the original real Star Wars. It was ahead of its time when made and still great. I think even someone from the 1920’s could follow and enjoy.

Maybe something about WW2. Schindler List maybe
ETA-Chernobyl

The Wire

That’s a tough one. Don’t have one atm
ETA- how about Entourage. They will know women are super hot in the future.

Probably Schindler’s List so someone could stop Hitler. You know the more I hear about that guy, the more I don’t care for him.

Here's my choices:

What Film/TV would you show the to "WOW" them?

STAR WARS: As was stated, this was a game changer, People from 100 years ago might believe the FX was real.

What Film/TV Would shock them?

The Exorcist. 100 years ago people's view on religion was more devout than today.

What Film/TV would leave them hopeful of the future?

Star Trek: First Contact. It show's a difficult period follow by the creation of the utopian world of the Federation.

What film/Tv would leave them depressed about the future?

Soylent Green is people!!!!

frick that. There are way better movies than that to show someone in the distant past that would equally blow their mind. The Wizard of Oz would equally blow someone’s mind in 1920 as Avatar would. If you’d like to frick with their minds with technology and the trajectory of society, the Blade Runner films would be the ones to do it.

I wonder if you showed someone from 1900 Jurassic park and said nothing else and they knew it was from almost 100 years in the future, if they would just assume we had found a way to bring dinosaurs back from extinction.

I agree, which is why I said "not the best movie" . Just throwing out something that hasn't been said.

From not having "computers" to a lifelike, 3D computer generated movie would be pretty mind blowing.
