She's always been Wyatt.

1) the center of the maze payoff was unsatifying for me. It just didn't seem worthy of all hoopla. And maybe it couldn't be. Maybe it's like Lost where there really wasn't going to be a satisfactory answer, but I almost felt a little cheated.
I get what you're saying. They all tried to warn him (The Maze is not for you). He didn't get it until he did at the gala.

3) there was too much exposition.
Meh - it's 2016 - audiences simply must be hit over the head with some things. This show satisfied that requirement without talking down to the audience too much.

"someone is coming for me"
How about this? They wanted us to believe it was Teddy. She was probably really thinking of Teddy. BUT, retracing her steps, William was more on the surface of her thinking.
But it was Teddy that moved heaven and earth to get to her and at least attempt a rescue. Turns out it was scripted, but what's the difference at this point?

I thought it was pretty obvious that the maze was the journey to consciousness earlier than episode 9, I even said so in earlier threads. So I did not expect anything else. There was a reason the host kept telling William it was not meant for him.
quote:
2) When Arnold is showing Dolores his son's game and explaining how it helped him figure out that sentience was achieved by completing a maze instead of a pyramid, he asks her point blank if she knows which voice he wants her to hear. Clearly, he wants her to hear how's voice, as that is what finally demonstrates the mind's evolution to consciousness when it begins to hear a person's own inner voice/conscience instead of one the attribute to "God" (the bicameral mind). She clearly says no, she's still confused. He said, that's ok, you're almost there. Then, 2 seconds later he exclaims "you're alive!" or something and soon after has her kill everybody. Well, make up your mind, Arnie. Was she alive or not?
That is not really how it went down. She did not reach consciousness back then 35 years ago. He could not get her to take the final step. He then added Wyatt's story to hers and programmed her to kill everyone and then him. He did this to stop the park from opening and to end her suffering. Because he felt what they were doing to the host was wrong, as he saw life in them, even if he could not get them to the final step of consciousness. In fact Ford's new narrative was to try and finish Arnold's work.
quote:
4) The William to MiB reveal was way too telegraphed, both in the series and in the episode. We'be covered the series, but in this episode, as soon as she said "someone is coming for me" you knew exactly where we were going, but it took way too long to get there. It was like, "alright, you're William, just fricking spit it out already and let's get on with it."
lol well there is probably some regular customers from these threads that still don't believe it.

You were so close to that "Cokes Award for Most Clueless about a TV Show" award, too, then Hugo snakes it out from under you with a single comment.

She's always been Wyatt. Arnold and Ford were developing Wyatt to be a villain 30 years ago before the park opened. Arnold melded Wyatt's attributes into her code to try and and free her before he died. We straight up see that happen in this episode.

Series executive producer Jonathan Nolan confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter what many other outlets had already assumed. The hit show won’t be back until 2018.

But we knew for ourselves that going forward, the production is enormously challenging and ambitious, and so is the writing. So we said very early on that we wouldn’t be able to turn this around every year, and knowing full well that that’s been a time-honored tradition in television. But in film, my other life, on the Batman movies, the best we could do is turn another one around in three years. I really feel like we’re splitting the difference here
plenty of time to ruminate...

So, I understand that Dolores = Wyatt.
My question is: who is this?
Just someone Ford planted in Teddy's memory to be Wyatt?

Yup. Dolores and Teddy were the ones that killed everybody in that town, and when Wyatt "shoots the General" that's an altered memory of Dolores shooting Arnold.

Let's not so casually dismiss purple haze, as he has tripled down on that extra soldier being Arnold/Bernard.

Ford explained last night that Arnold had merged the traits of a proposed character - Wyatt - with Delores. Teddy was programmed to remember her actions as Wyatt. The British script guy who wants to replace Ford was seen working on a Wyatt model in the present timeline, but he was never actually used.
Before they all went nuts last night, Delores spoke the quote that Teddy had always attributed to Wyatt. So Ford never really intended to introduce Wyatt.
