exactly. So why did they show us Dolores kill Bernard not Arnold?

What I don't understand is how Bernard could show up and literally no one remembers Arnold?
I mean he was a pretty damn important guy. 30 years isn't that long, and there would be a massive amount of material on the guy, almost certainly.
No one at Delos just did a Google search of "Arnold + Westworld"

Well he wasn't famous and died before there was a board or a single guest in the park.
He was just a random scientist.
And Ford didn't recreate him for like 20 years.

They never showed Dolores killing Bernard. Dolores killed Arnold. That's why you're confused

Dolores never kills Bernard.

No one gets to the that level of advanced technology without some level of notoriety.
He went to school somewhere, probably MIT. He was assuredly a big time student.
They had to get funding from somewhere to start building the Hosts and Escalante, etc etc etc.
And he wasn't a "random scientist", he was Ford's partner.
Almost everyone in this day and age has a digital footprint. We have to imagine this takes place relatively far in the future where it would be inescapable.

I saw Dolores shoot a black man. Arnold was white

Or maybe the white guy you saw in the show wasn't Arnold?

there are scenes with the real Arnold (looks like Bernard, isn't) and Dolores.
I'm fairly convinced now that any scene with Jeffrey Wright and Evan Rachel Wood in a 2-shot that is not clearly the large facility (in other words, any scene in the remote or out of the way, small facility) represents Arnold - flashbacks or memories, however you want to describe them. Certainly most of them appear to be, now, in hindsight.
It's Arnold's voice she hears, generally, telling her to do things. Now, in the present that may have been manipulated by Ford - he even admits in this episode that he's deliberately kept Bernard and Delores apart because they have strange effects on each other.

Who was the guy storming off with Ford yelling "ARNOLD!" Then that's also in the picture?

Go back and watch all the episodes again, then come back and tell us you were wrong, baw.

No, Arnold was a real person. Notice the real Arnold didn't have glasses. Now Ford could have created an android Arnold before Arnold died. I also think that Delores is Ford's memories and persona. Ford is now immersed in this world he created. Also, it allows Anthony Hopkins to exit the series.
I agree with the guy earlier who said that some people seem to be totally missing Ford's ultimate redemption. Some guy was still calling him an evil monster. This episode showed he was not. He sacrificed himself and the board to finally give the hosts freedom/free will/consciousness. In this act, he truly become symbolically God, rather than a guy with a God complex.

Why exactly do you continue to watch the show if it's so miserable for you?
Go watch Game of Thrones reruns instead of shitting all over this show.

Not exactly - God doesn't usually die. But a sacrificial messiah figure (effectively displacing Arnold in that role)? Yeah.

quote:100% true. I'll double check on my rewatch, but doesn't Ford tell them there at the end that he purposefully kept them apart until that moment? But I thought I remember Dolores being interviewed by Bernard in the Mesa. Maybe that was just Elsie...

Dolores hears/remembers Arnold who she then makes the connection that it's her own voice. That Arnold has never said some of those things and she's leading herself to the center of the maze... which is exactly what the maze is: being your own leader, making your own decisions.
