I've wanted to let things sink in and then I'd post.

I complained in another thread about changing the direction of the "Title" but would watch and see.

Whew. I'm not sold on anything being what it's portrayed as right now being what it really is. The good and bad both wearing mask is a interesting concept to me.

It's fantastically shot and the score is top notch. Can't wait for more.

I'm in it for 8 more weeks of Reznor/Ross alone.

I'd watch grass grow if they scored it.

Another 100% true statement that gets a downvote because it doesn't fit someone's narrative.

Neither Veidt or Rorschach were political. They were extremely egotistical and uncompromising so their beliefs would fit this era.

It would help if people went back and read the comic which the writers of this series did instead of having sophomoric knee-jerk reactions like so many here.

Not sure if its been posted here yet, but HBO has a companion site for the show that looks like it will be updated with articles after each episode similar to how the comic uses articles between chapters: LINK

I've read 3/4 so far and it seems pretty interesting. Of note so far, it does seem like Rorschach's journal is viewed as a hoax by most, but extremist groups use it as some sort of conspiracy theory. It also contains a lot of info about how the world reacted after Veidt dropped the giant squid on NY.

i mean, you can directly quote Rorschach making political statements. its just after his most famous quote.

he pines for the good old days when men worked hard and made a dollar, before communists, liberals, and intellectuals screwed it all up.

But im sure Moore himself, who stated he intended Rorschach to be an extreme far right character, never intended to have him overtly state his politics.

Some cliffs (only seen the movie/read the comic cliffs so don’t kill me if some of this has been covered somewhere”

Silk Spectre and Night Owl were eventually arrested for continuing to be superhero’s. Silk took up the name “The comedienne” before the arrest. Also appears at some point she has joined the agency overseeing the anti-vigilante committee but doesn’t seem to be too friendly with the head of that department. Maybe I misunderstood that last part

-Veidt has been “announced” dead because he’s been missing for 7 years and the govt is simply giving up their search for him.

-after the alien invasion, it seems as tho they destroyed all computers and other technologies because they thought it was what brought on the attack in the first place. There seems to be a massive mistrust of computers and anything that people can construe as connected to Dr Manhattan due to concerns about it being cancerous. Also tobacco is a controlled substance now

- Sounds like Veidt got into cloning, genetics, and self help guru-ing which seemed to tank his reputation in the later years of his career. When his company got bought out, they went to his place in Antartica and he was gone and has been missing since

-Rorsach’s journal was posted by a right wing paper and largely has been discredited by everyone involved but some groups have used it as a rallying material for their mistrust of the government, and the Calvary in this show in particular are going after law enforcement as a retaliation to their disapproval of the President, so they attack the arms of the Executive branch.

Are these spoilers or from the sequel comics or from that dossier HBO put out?

They're not spoilers, they're articles from the link that I posted. They're intended to bridge the gap between episodes.

Thanks for the heads up. The Rorshach journal and Veidt claimed dead article were both pretty good reads.

Although the police considering Rorsachs journal as a bit of a joke kind of goes against the feeling the comic left you with. At the end of the comic you had a good feeling that his journal would tell the story even though he was dead. This kind of diminishes that.

This isn’t a good sign if they’re going to expect viewers to do homework to find out what’s going on off-screen.

Meh, I kind of assumed this is what would happen. Rorschach himself is already an unreliable narrator, and he sent it to a right wing tabloid. On top of that, the police already hated Rorschach and thought he was crazy.

The journal making it to the New Frontiersmen was just more about the story not being over, not that the truth was going to get to everyone, if that makes sense.

I mean, I assume HBO isn't dumb enough to have the articles be substantial enough that you wouldn't be able to follow the show without it.

Hell, you could probably still enjoy the comic skipping the articles at the end of the chapters. The movie certainly did fine without them. It just gives more depth.

Those were typical mid-80's statements when Moore wrote Watchmen. What Moore meant to typify- and he does it through Rorschach's "No compromise" mantra- is that Rorschach is and absolutist. Veidt according to Moore is and extremist. He may affect the effete trappings of a liberal but he is at his core a mass murderer.

Watchmen is best viewed as commentary on the perils of extremism and absolutism (ironically what most modern political discourse typifies) instead of mere left/right or conservative/liberal dogma.

Doomsday Clock the world went to shite in 1992 because the journals and other evidence got taken seriously.

Manhatten jumped to a DC Universe which was going through a sorta 50 State Initiative for nations. It's pretty much 52/WW3 again.

Also, the newspaper said Veidt is dead, but everybody agrees Irons is Veidt, right? And his servants are robots.

Yep. Robots or clones or something of the sort. And based on the preview at the end of the episode I'm wondering if he's going to try to create another Dr. Manhattan.

Based on Veidt's history of genetic work (see his huge genetically altered lynx Bubastis from the comic series and movie):

I would assume the servants are clones.

Neat how the servant gave him a horsehoe instead of a knife to cut the cake. They are still imperfect, or still learning.

I'm still leaning towards it's Jon.

What's Jon?

HBO confirmed that Irons is Veidt

Jon is Dr Manhattan. Who's last interaction with Veidt was neither condemning nor condoning the squid attack and murders, but heavily implying it was all for nought.

We don't even know if the estate is on Earth.

The important thing to know is we're in a setting with a reality warper. So him wearing Veidt's skin is him doing a Jesus as the Son thing.
