that scene with the weapon stuck in the safety lock was the biggest anti-gun-control message that I've seen on TV.
I much more saw that as an anti-police BLM dream state message / left wing fantasy where the police have to call and ask permission to get their pistol out of the lock. It is really that way in a lot of European countries which blows my mind. They keep the firearms at the police station and the officers have to call to get someone to bring one out to the field. Or London where they have Firearms Officers that ride around in cars and respond when officers call for them.

Why? It didn't work. It showed how ridiculous it would be.

Not to sound like the Poli Board but is the premise that far fetched? At least enough for a TV show?
In the original comic, the mutually assured destruction of nuclear war was the backdrop for the series. That was a real thing in the 80s and a true, real world premise for the comic. This new show wants us to accept and believe that widespread white supremacy is the true premise that exists in the real world beneath the fictitious one. My objection to the series is simply that the idea that white supremacy is the greatest problem facing America is a damn lie.

I've watched the first episode.
Seeing Black Wall Street burn actually made me want a real piece on that.
The traffic stop was a halfway decent intro to the backstory they are telling so far.
I'm confused about the Minutemen AHS thing since capes were never popular media in universe.
Cops being vigilantes is weird. Im not sure if they just killed Dan, but what happened to Archi sucks.
Pretty sure the country lord is Jon fulfilling the ending of the comic.
All and all neutral on the episode and as expected on Damon. Good to see Gibbons getting what he can though. Chuckled at Alan Moore still not putting his name to anything.

I didn't take that as being the original Archimedes. With the owl coffee cup, Hollis' novel in his office, and the airship, I took it to mean that the Chief was a huge Night Owl fan. (And there was an owl screeching as he hung there from the tree.)

I'm hoping for that.
But trust in Damon is low. And playing the this is the Pirate Story or Jon card is eh.
ETA: I think what's getting me is I could be watching COOOOOOOOOBRA! facing off with GI JOE and this story be the same.

It didnt work...what are you talking about. The cop got like 30 rounds through the chest cause of the left wing fantasy so that scene seemed to be saying how ridiculous it was.

TBH that scene had me remembering the actual murder where a Vietnam vet unloaded on a cop after the vet acted an arse the entire time.

I watched the first episode last night and became extremely let down at the premise of the show. Breaking news everyone: Racism is bad. And anyone who talks with a southern accent is obviously a racist bad guy.
I mean come on.. She busts into a trailer park with American flags hanging everywhere.. Arrests the white trash, redneck guy, and in the interrogation scene they ask him, "how would you feel if I defecated on the American flag?"
Who tf comes up with this shite?

Except for the leader and second in command of the anti-racist police.
Not sure about the Panda.
But go on...

Ahhh... I see your point (are we allowed to admit that on the internet?). I was just thinking "this is where we will end up some day" the entire scene. But, looking at it now, you are correct that the scene shows the folly of that line of thinking.

That's another thing I'm wondering, what happened with Nixon now.
The Big Boy statue at the trailer park has me wondering what happened with Nixonomics.

Two of the three main characters/good guys in ep 1 were white guys with southern accents.

I never read the comic, but I really liked the movie.
I really didn't care for the first episode of this show. I'm going to give it a few more episodes.

Your long, well crafted, on a phone post. His reply that he didn’t need that and your response. L O fricking L
Just watched episode 1 last night. Loved the score. Loved the episode. Loved Regina King. Did not love Don Johnson dying but that’s because they made me like him that much that quickly.
Not sure where they’re going and I’m extremely good with that.

Not sure if i'm going to watch episode 2. Episode 1 was fricking horrible, and really stupid at times.
Does it get better? And can you get a new cast

Exactly. The Leftovers is one of my favorite shows of all time and there were multiple episodes every season that when they ended you were like wtf did I just watch and how in the world does that tie in. IMO, he wrapped it up pretty nicely. If this ends up being the same quality as The Leftovers with plenty of wtf episodes, sprinkle in some characters that you already know and i'm good with that.
Although I do agree I hope he doesnt get weird just for the sake of being weird.

Not sure, only one episode has aired so far.

What do you mean?

Haha I felt kinda bad.
I know they’ll eventually tie it all in together, but it feels more like they’re roping me in with the name and are going to have a lot of non-watchmen related content.
I also Feel like for a pilot, it didn’t do enough to hook me. I mean, I’ll watch the next episode, but with the hopes something will catch my attention.

Just hit me that his character in this show really reminds me of the one he played in Django. Just a couple of hundred years later and the polar opposite on race relations.
