It's all coming together quite well.
For me, these things work when I think about the show during the week, trying to figure out what's the deal with such and such and when I can't wait until the next episode.
It's working. As the world starts filling itself in, I want more. And more. And more.

Im enjoying it more than I though I would but I've mostly dodged one Lindelof show and I'm just waiting for it to get mismanaged.

Just rewatched all three episodes. So the Veidt stuff has happened in the past, each cake is a new year, the castle destroyed by Dr. Manhattan in the first episode is Veidt's and I guess maybe he really is dead now or certainly not on Mars anymore.

Got ya. Yea I watched all of LOST and its ending is right behind GoT as my least favorite ending of all time and i've never rewatched a single episode. The Leftovers on the other hand, is one of my favorite shows of all time and i've watched it all the way through 3 times and it has a decent ending that actually explains all the weird stuff.

The Veidt Declared Dead news article explained that he had been missing since 2012 and that he was declared dead in 2019. The newspaper article never said a body was found. It was like they just gave up the search and all of his stuff/business were being handed over. He had no family to leave anything to.

No, one candle, two candles, three candles. three anniversaries. Are you saying Veidt has no problem killing them, but doesn't want to hurt their feelings? They get the day wrong, but remember the number? Why a sequential number of candles at all? This is back story. It's the third anniversary of his imprisnment. And we saw the last day of his imprisonment at the beginning of the series when Dr. Manhattan destroys the castle on Mars. That wasn't his clockwork crystal palace he made in the comic.
What Veidt did is now known by some people, but they are keeping up the facade.That's why it is still raining squids. Dr. Manhattan is doing that.
They are not his clones. I thought that as well, but they are Dr. Manhattan's creations, not clones at all.. Manhattan's last words in the comic were about regaining his interest in humanity, creating life and that nothing ever ends. Dr. Manhattan is the game warden. It wouldn't surprise if Crookshanks and Phillips were copies of himself and Janey Slater, his first woman.
There's a lot going on but I think the Veidt sections serve as the Black Freighter of this show. Lindelof did this on Lost.
and here is some confirmation, at least of the candles. He looks older too, but could just be having a bad day on set. Has anyone listened to the podcast?
