the "greatest nation on earth" waged war on them for no fricking reason
There were 2 reasons:
1. They practiced extreme religious beliefs well outside the mainstream, and
2. They chose to be heavily armed.
From a certain perspective, they were begging to be made examples of - sort of a whole "frick you" to the first 2 amendments to the Constitution.

I want you to process this - they believed in some cataclysmic event during which the government would assault them. They prepared for that event.
That's what always pissed me off - the U.S. government actually made Koresh's prophecy come true and the true victims (the women and children) died thinking Koresh really was some sort of prophet.

How very unsurprising this thread reads like a raving poliboard echo chamber.

SIAP, and I'm not reading this whole thread, but they painted the Koresh clan way more sympathetically than they deserved.

They were also gun dealers, they made a living off selling and buying guns. It provided them a nice income. Gun dealers usually have a vast collection of guns.

Yep. This is evident within the first 15 minutes of episode one. Koresh is talking to his #2 as well as another follower, the latter whom is about to take some weaponry and homemade vests to a gun show to sell.

Same people bitching about WACO/FBI/ATF have no problem with ICE housing immigrant children in cages. ICE is seen as MAGA and FBI is seen as bad because Trump is scared to of them and the dirt he knows they have on him. Trump cult and Koresh cult. A cults a cult. Both are brainwashed and follow a false god. Both would die for their leader and believe every word that they say. Not to mention both leaders raped underage children.
I hope you are a troll. If not you need to see a therapist. One of the ATF agents killed was from Lake Charles and a former bodyguard of Bill Clinton. Actually all 4 of the agents that were killed in Waco were former bodyguards of Bill Clinton.

which was noted as a potential meth lab (many members were former drug dealers with trafficking records)
They knew this was BS and it was proven they knew it was BS. This was cleaned up by Koresh and the local PD. They used this old information to lie to the governor to get more man power and the helis. Using this to back yourself up shows you haven't really researched it.
quote:
The ATF cited three factors in its assumption that there was a drug lab on the site, but ABC said all three were found to be "either exaggerated or untrue. " It noted that ATF said 11 members of the cult were known drug offenders, but the Justice Department later admitted only four cult members showed up on a computer list, and those names were not double-checked with birth dates or Social Security numbers to eliminate people with similar names.
An infrared aerial photo that ATF said showed a hot spot consistent with a methamphetamine lab was never double-checked by federal drug agents and could well have been just a stove, it said.
Finally, the ATF cited open court testimony about the presence of a drug lab in 1992 but five hours of testimony by a former ATF informant contained no such reference, ABC said.
A former Drug Enforcement Agency official also told ABC that use of firearms would have been extremely dangerous if a drug lab had been on thecompound, since the slightest spark could have caused a massive explosion.
The worst part is the drug charges weren't on the official warrant. So they just lied about the drug lab to get the helis and then pretended their was no mention of drugs after that.

Don't go by the show, it took a lot of liberties and changed things. Read the Gary Noesner and David Thibodeau autobiographies as a start, they are better. Show used a lot of this info though.

I felt sorry for the children. Its hard for me to sympathize with a dude who married a 13 year old and his followers that were ok with it.

BD knew they were coming, had moments to prepare just in case. They had weapons. They had high ground thanks to the multi-level buildings. No one is disputing this. It’s a testament to the BD that they didn’t slaughter those remaining agents as they hauled their dead and wounded off.
Bruh....this right here seems to put you squarely on the nuts of David Koresh...you know he is dead right? Potentially by a fire that he and his lackeys set.

Absolutely but I have a feeling that if wouldn't have been for Mr. Wack Job the children would have been let go.....hell they did let some of them go....he just kept "his" (most were not his biologically I think) with him to go down in his blaze of "glory".

The ATF failing to do any second checks on the drugs, just to get military assets is a gross overstep, and an abuse of power. I don't agree at all with the BDs but the whole thing was all about looks for the ATF and FBI after they took a black eye at Ruby Ridge.
Koresh could have been taken at any time and then a search warrant could have been had.

Probably not huh
ATF had no business in this, it's a nonissue when addressing this subject. Sure it was wrong what he did with statutory rape, but this was not grounds for going in there and always used as a distraction for the horror caused by the government.

Who’s defending [him]? Again, ATF was not there serving a warrant for charges involving child abuse. So yes, ATF has no jurisdiction. Which was the point of my post. People trying this “think of the children” prattle are intentionally obtuse in trying to justify the ridiculous force used by the. government. It’s bullshite hindsight and it flies right in the face of thr government’s own actions during the seige.
I don't think people are trying to justify the amount of force used as much as they are pointing out that "they weren't huring anybody" isn't true
IT can be true that the government should have gotten involved and they shouldn't have burnt the whole compound down and killed everyone.
They aren't mutually exclusive concepts.
