It's this weird fascination Hollywood has with Mary Sues and thinking every woman should be an idealized version of Michelle Rodriguez that is just killing female leads and characters. Rey could have been interesting, but she was perfect from the jump.

Because modern feminism has no ability to be introspective. They simply can't ever criticize feminism in anyway. They'll always reach for more "men bad" rhetoric and develop entirely new pathologies to avoid calling out toxic feminism. To make a female character flawed would require an element of self-critique that Hollywood feminism has made a grave sin.

Will Ferrell and Robert Downey Jr. Made statements in the last 6 months that women should rule the world.

Kind of strange, huh? That culture isn't producing any good female characters anytime soon

Yep. I wonder if they figured out the reason.

I'll be honest, I think I went to the movies twice this year. Twice.

I went to the theater for the first time in 4 years this year to see Godzilla Minus one.

I think I went four times this year:

1. Scream 6
2. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
3. Oppenheimer
4. Napoleon

“We need Marvel movies to work"

That's a sad pathetic indictment on who?

Did the industry create this singular-driven mess...or the people?

People see what's offered. Was the box office so bad in the 80s/90s? I don't think so. Hollywood got a few cash cows in the 2000s, got lazy and greedy and repeat and rinse.

But the people, the audience are not innocent in destroying cinema because they sheepishly fed the beast.

Still don’t get how that weird looking dude was supposed to be a big thing in the first place.

Now, the broader fear is that if Marvel movies are sputtering, then the entire theatrical ecosystem is in jeopardy, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” notwithstanding.

“We need Marvel movies to work,” says an executive at a Disney rival. “They drive people to theaters who then see other movies. When you have a movie like ‘The Marvels,’ it’s bad for all of us.”

Yikes, this is insane. Successful Marvel movies shouldn't be a crutch for the entire industry.

I'm sure it was nice to have when the going was good, but expecting the Mouse to pick you up isn't a plan. If you want to drive people to theaters, make better movies yourself.

Here's the thing, they didn't PLAN to put out box office bomb after bomb. They made these movies and shows expecting to turn some level of profit. A good bit of profit, most certainly.

They same folks are in charge, for the most part.
The studios are now 6-8 months behind schedule, minimum. And sometimes when delays happen, things start to overlap, and decisions must be made. Some things have already been dropped outright.

So there's less content coming up in the foreseeable future. That's just a fact.

Weird dude who isn't a movie star, but at best a capable stage actor. Those things don't always translate back and forth. Hell, he admitted to going to clown school, and it shows!

But just like over at DC, they chose to stick with Ezra Miller and Amber Heard, despite their cratering unpopularity with fans. The studios are stubborn & think they know best.

They don't.

I'm seeing a lot of crap for next year. Dune Part II and Argyle look like the only block busters.

His rant comparing himself to Martin Luther King and Barack Obama is pretty gold though.

There are a lot of longtime moviegoers who don’t really care about the Marvel Universe or its ilk.

Oppenheimer and Barbie made it a more memorable year than many in recent memory… Disney just has their head up their butts!

I mean, Barbenheimer is among the more notable and fun cinematic experiences in years outside of Marvel’s best

Other than Barbie, Super Mario Bros., and Oppenheimer there were no other notable film releases that exceeded expectations at the box office.
