“The English Patient” was a great adaptation of the book and was deserving of an Oscar.

I just recently watched The Shape of Water and it’s probably in my bottom 10. Coda would be another one that would be borderline that benefited from not many movies being released that year. Anora is already aging terribly and I think people are finally realizing how overrated EEAO is after its release.
I still haven’t seen Nomadland, Green Book, or Moonlight mainly because I just don’t think I’ll like them.
I agree with most of the list but I would nominate Around the World in 80 Days and Gigi. Emile Zola, Mrs. Miniver, and Great Ziegfeld should also be considered.
Honestly the Oscar Best Picture list kind of sucks for long stretches, which is why I try not to take it too seriously each year.

I think the difference is they can claim Do The Right Thing should have won but BlacKKKlansman would have had tough sledding if Green Book hadn’t won.

I’ve been saying this for almost 30 years now. SIL is a very good movie, winning the Oscar over SPR is the worst thing to happen to it. It doesn’t belong anywhere near this list. It was well liked at the time. It was a box office hit and made most critics top 10 lists. Saying it should not have won BP is one thing, but it’s not a bad movie by any means.

and I really liked Green Book.
even though I think it was a good movie, I pray society looks the same way at One Battle After Another in 10 years. good movie, but totally a snapshot in time of Hollywood smelling it's own farts.

Everything Everywhere All at Once should be up there.
It’s just not that good. Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die was a far superior multiverse flick. Far more entertaining and better acting.

That is actually a fair comparison, though I haven't seen Crash in years, so I can't do a complete apples to apples comparison. But you did hit the nail there, swap racism with drugs and you have Go.....I kind of want to watch Go now.

Crash was definitely overrated, but I actually loved Slumdog Millionaire.
