Those all make my list. Don't agree with 10-7. Not that i love any of them, but they're not offensively bad. Out of Africa is stuffy and boring, but it's not awful.

I can think of a few deserving candidates from the last 15 years that should have probably made this list as well.

Do the Right Thing sucked. Spike is basically a one-trick pony, fixated on race. It's boring. Inside Man is a great film, though.

Karen Blixen- Isak Dineson the author. A woman very much ahead of her time and unafraid of being herself and forging a life in a world very foreign to her.
Denys Finch Hatton= A man's man. An American original who lived life on his own terms and forged a path through a mysterious and modernizing world.
Both these people placed a premium on the individual and the cost of giving up that premium for love and relationship.
Sidney Pollack directed an achingly beautiful testament to the people and times of this particular age that was appearing and disappearing around them at the same time.
Beautiful film.

Crash (1996) is a perfect movie. Not a likeable movie, not a rewatchable movie, and certainly not a feel good movie. But as it stands it’s pretty much perfect.

Like what? I don't like The Shape of Water, The Kings Speech, Nomadland, or Moonlight. Or Birdman. I don't think I'd put any of those in the bottom 10 of winners.
Green Book might be close.

There is nothing "artsy" about Crash at all. Even the film's writer/director, Paul Haggis, has gone on the record saying his film shouldn't have won the top prize that night.

Finally someone who agrees with me that Out of Africa is a good movie.
And it was peak Robert Redford.
