Why do I feel it’s some strange scenario where we gave up a first and shaheed for a 6th and 7th.

That joke aside, you aren’t lying that they did that. And what’s worse is Lincoln fan boyed hard with Sherman in letters back and forth about his path of destruction. Lincoln gets the credit of winning and the favorable stories but he isn’t the saint that history has made him out to be.

I’ll bite on this “gotcha.” Before we even get into the contract issue, can a student-athlete be kicked off the team for misconduct unbecoming, whether that’s not listening to a coach, not making grades, or doing anything criminal?

We know that’s true even if the student is on scholarship. Once they are kicked off their team, the student may still be enrolled in the school and could complete their studies. However the university has separate rules related to student misconduct that must be followed.

Now, for the contracts. Getting this out of the way, universities receive federal funding, meaning they have to follow Title IX. Thus, you have contracts for football, you have to do it for all. The settlement and revenue sharing will be expanded to all athletics, not just football.

Finally, the athletes should be considered employees since they meet the rules for employment sans payment for services rendered. It would make things so much easier if there was employment, but schools want to avoid it due to the threat of workers compensation claims. That alone would cost more than any revenue sharing.

Ultimately, there will be some collective bargaining but it will be strange without employment. It may be more akin to the actors union than anything, but you will see multi-year and single year deals throughout. That CBA would also layout penalties for athletes doing improper things and how school will also factor.

In theory, if you did this trade and hit on all the picks, you could re-open the contending window. Unfortunately, we will never test this theory.

I remember something from Brandon about firing people on the spot for doing stuff like this…maybe I’m just misremembering.
